I really like Orion, it's a sample based synth made using royalty free samples and it sounds absolutely awesome.

I also like the GM VASP synths when I want some analogue warmth, they does not feature any digital filter or modulation effects. Instead, the samples feature the original real analog filters and chorus effects recorded straight from a vintage analog synthesizer.

Just found the Venn Audio plugs,

A super handy clipper. All necessary gain staging controls within the plug and multiple clip algos:

https://www.vennaudio.com/free-clip/

A nice channel Utility too, with peak and RMS meters and a lot of basic useful mixing stuff panning, widening, m/s etc:

http://www.vennaudio.com/utility/

They`ve also got a Haas delay that I`m yet to try

Oscarizor, has

1) Spectrum analyser

2) Stereo Spread analyser

3) Tempo-synced waveform readout:  Great for checking peaks while compressing.  i.e. stray transients getting through that you may want to use a clipper on.  Also nice for checking Kick tail lengths.  Anything transient processing.

Free downloads are the blue buttons under the yellow purchase buttons for the payware version:

http://www.sugaraudio.de/oscarizor/

oscarizor.PNG

Similar to S(m)exoscope, though no tempo syncing, can be used as a second opinion:

DMG Track control,

another useful utility (panning, HPF,  etc.)

Added feature of track delay.  Means you can add ms delays to renoise group tracks:

+  a pretty unique ms panning mode where you can pan the mid signal separately from the side signal.

Nice set of Windows freebies here (or mac if used as reaper plugs).  On KvR the limiter seems to get some good feedback but I`ve so far been trying out the Hybrid Bus Compressor which seems well worth having in the collection:

I don't know if anyone's heard of HELM VST, but it's a nice open source synth for Mac/Win/Lin. It plays nice with Renoise, allowing us to control and automate parameters. I am able to get lots of big, modern sounds from it -- on par with Tyrell N6. I supported the author with a small donation to keep development going, and would love it if a larger community got behind this app to push it forward.

PaulXStretch plugin

PaulXStretch – VST2/AU Plugin for extreme time stretching and other spectral processing of audio

This plugin is based on the PaulStretch algorithm/standalone app. (Paul’s Extreme Time Stretch.)

No manual or demonstration video exists at the moment, but some information follows :

The plugin is only suitable for radical transformation of sounds. It is not suitable at all for subtle time corrections and such. Ambient music and sound design are probably the most suitable use cases.

The plugin can either load an existing audio file from disk to process or it can capture audio from the plugin inputs. (The capture mode is started/stopped with the “Capture” parameter.)

The plugin will require the DAW audio engine to be running on the track it is inserted on. How that is achieved in various hosts is specific to those hosts. Some hosts will just immediately start running the plugin, in other hosts one may need to record/input monitor enable the track or something else needs to be done.

The plugin has lots of latency, that isn’t reported to the host currently. I will have to investigate later what, if anything, can be done about those issues.

I have tested that the plugin loads and runs in :

Windows : Reaper, Ableton Live Lite 9, FL Studio, JUCE plugin host. RENOISE

Mac Os : Reaper (VST), Ableton Live Lite 9 (VST), GarageBand (AU), Plogue Bidule (VST). RENOISE

https://xenakios.wor...tretch-plugin/  :yeah:

Superexcited, as this is one of my all time favs; the vst werx ok for now, still needs some fixes.

There is an #offline version, too; which works perfectly http://hypermammut.s...et/paulstretch/

SAMPLESCIENCE PLAYER

The SampleScience Player is the biggest free rompler available today. This instrument plugin contains a core library of 200 playable instruments. You'll find everything from acoustic pianos to analog synthesizers drums. To limit the size of the plugin without compromising it sound quality, the library has been compressed to FLAC, a lossless audio compression codec.

This is one is pretty neat for everyone looking for some quality sounds, free to use in your music & straight outta da Box #Rompler.

Can anyone recommend a good non-sample based freeware 808 that doesnt need to go into program files?

I know paid ones that are good like nepheton ( http://d16.pl/nepheton ), or for 909 drumazon ( http://d16.pl/drumazon ) but I cant justify 99 euros cost.

Are there freeware 808s that can compare to that kind of quality ( not sample based ones )?

I think you're gonna have a really hard time finding a developer who's willing to dedicate countless hours of their life to carefully studying, researching, and modelling the many intricacies and peculiarities of a classic piece of hardware like the TR-808, who doesn't also want to be compensated fairly for their hard work.

So either cough up the dosh for a well-made plugin like AudioRealism Drum Machine which does the TR-606, TR-808, and TR-909 all in one convenient package, or one of the excellent plugins from D16 that you're already aware of, or simply accept the fact that samples — of which there endless high quality packs to choose from — are the next best thing.

In my experience there isn't really much middle ground to choose from in this particular area. There are a lot of shit and poorly recorded/edited sample packs, and a lot of shit half-arsed plugins churned out by noobs in SynthEdit, but really only a small handful of truly accurate quality options to choose from if you want authentic results.

You get what you pay for, and all that.

Maybe ur 14 soundcloud - followers caring more about ur #opinion.  :yeah:

Just tried the ts 808 ..( mentioned above )

The noise section in the snare doesn't even have a decay parameter , which is normally the 'tone ' parameter on the tr 808

On the plugin  tone for the snare  is just another tune parameter  .

NOt really a good  emulation

ChaosChimp is an audio effect plugin designed to cause problems for your sequencer. Seriously!
It's inspired by Netflix's ChaosMonkey, which was built under the philosophy that instead of hoping bad things never happen, they should be forced to happen often so that one is better prepared for them.

Simple, yet pretty effective little Gem here:

GFM Koch is a physical synthesizer able to generate the punchiest percussive notes, by construction. Thanks to the purity of its integration, its sound is especially crystalline from the lowest to the highest frequencies. Thus it is suitable for sub-bass stabs, percussive basses, emulating electric pianos and tonal percussions. To compliment this raw sound, a sub-oscillator and voice-wise distortion is provided. This distortion is devoid of aliasing, again by construction.

I just discovered the freeware bundle from Beatmaker.XYZ, which includes some very nice little VST plugins that are great for lo-fi hip hop and other atmospheric sounds. The ATMOS vst is a nice piano+synth reverb that I find myself coming back to often. The BASSIK just has a few good simple thump sounds that work great in old school hip hop (like DJ Premier style). It's got a simple 808 and a simple acoustic drum machine -- all real usable sounds with a nice layer of white noise in the background to emulate a scratchy vinyl record.

diabolique.jpg

in.side the machine: diabolique

Diabolique (VST Effect - PC) new This VST plugin is free to celebrate our 20 anniversary. It emulates 2 vintage tube reel to reels: a Revox F36 from 1962 (circuitry 1) and a Tandberg Model 3 from 1958 (circuitry 2). Apart from their differences, here the question is maintenance: while the Revox has been kept in immaculate condition (but retaining all good vintage components), the Tandberg has never seen any maintenance having all its original components (including a tube set of Telefunkens that are all testing as new). This plugin can be used to warm up your sounds, to simulate tape multi-tracking and/or to dirty up your sounds, it depends on the way it is used. The original template simulates the Revox and, by switching to Circuitry 2, you get the original Tandberg sound. Then you have all options open to change the sound: input/output levels, a very rare 15 ips feature was added (not present in the original Tandberg recorder), altering the tube saturation, changing the noise bias and level,... It´s Lo-Fi if you want: you can change the frequency response to the vinyl era by abusing the "Vintage" knob. Have fun with it!
