The numeric system was in many cases flawed as it gave a false sense of accuracy. Imagine you listen to one track, you give it 100 points. A next song is even better: you'd have to re-adjust the scale and edit all previous ratings. Another problem is that the initial mental image one has of a scale tends to become distorted after a period of time. Similarly, everyone uses a different scale. For example, in popular media, everything below 6 is moot, but upwards of 6 behaves like an exponential curve. Sometimes it seems the range from 90 to 100 is a complete scale by itself!

I understand what you say, and you're right, but still I think this method along with all its difficulties results in a better evaluation. Here's an example:

My ratings:
song A: 90
song B: 60

My friend's ratings:
song A: 78
song B: 80

My friend here suggests that song B is better than A, but yet he thinks they are very alike. I suggest that song A is much better than B. Finally song A will be evaluated better than B.

Now consider the sorting system. My vote and my friend's simply would cancel each other out, no result is obtained.

You can't vote for your own song, but otherwise you should be able to sort all songs. Please explain what you mean.

Of course I'm able to sort all songs, but not forced to. Or am I wrong?

If all the voters are forced to sort all the entries, so there would be no complications. But what if I sort all the entries, and the other one sorts just ten of them? Is it possible? I've voted for all songs so don't know if it is.

The underlying algorithm will be similar to BB5. Every vote increases your influence. Actually it's even more complicated, since the public votes are shared with the jury votes. But in the theme of the compo I want to keep the compo site nice and simple -- the BB5 site had a bit too many numbers. That was appropriate for the cyberpunk underwater theme though. By the way did anyone notice BioShock came surprisingly soon after? ;).

Regardless of these minor disagreements, you have always done what it's been the best for this community. Anyone trusts you, and surely appreciates your endless efforts :) Thanks to you and the others involved in this pleasant compo.

Works for me in Opera 10, IE7, Chrome 3, Firefox 3.5... So it will be hard for me to debug.

Make you can send me a screenshot or list of your votes and send it to me so I can save your votes.
