Empire of the Sun are a band with that rare ability to write music that sounds and feels as if it were written in the 70s and 80s.
The album the tracks are taken from contains a whole bunch of catchy tracks, with a lot of clever melodic and chordal hooks!

Wagon Christ - Mahadelic

For me it is one of the best ambient chillout track ever, and with microtonal mellow inside.

Russian video, catchy track, and a beat that could have been made in RAS.  They'd never be allowed to release this video in the UK though, there'd be a whole cottage industry of 'morals' and 'politics' built-up around it, despite the fact that all it does is demonstrate attraction, lust, and the power of human instinct.  I think it's perfectly understandable that Mr Kalashnikov has no interest in Cherubs painted on museum walls when such distractions are put before him.  And if you had a camera handy, as Mr Kalashnikov did, I bet you'd do the same, you'd not be wasting your storage space on Cherub shots in such circumstances.

No you wouldn't, liar!

COIL - WHERE ARE YOU?

Where are you?
Are you hiding from me?
Are you still looking for things that no-one else can see?

Where are you?
Are you in some place that we cannot reach?
Are you bathing in moonlight or drowned on the beach?

Where are you?
Are you surrounded by things we cannot penetrate?
Is the cage you love the home you also hate?

Your fear of death attracts such strange objects
Smothering you, hiding you, don't let it spoil you
Show yourself so the others may see you
So the others may feed you
They want to be near you

If you can't get enough of your hypnotic injection
Then it's time to put an end to this invalid function
Poor little ghost boy
Let me be your human toy

Where are you?
No-one's seen you for years
Have your wounds grown wings? Are you feasting on fears?
I can see your dark corona is eating into you
You're surrounded by things we cannot penetrate
Is the cage you love the home you also hate?
Life lies with the scissors inside her
The surgeon was a butcher
All of us are wounded, anaesthetised in A.E.
Numbed by stuff we should not see
Each of us lies bleeding
Our rivers intermingling
Poor little ghost boy
Let me be your human toy

I'll wrap my last kiss in a bandage
I'll wrap my last kiss in a bandage
I'll wrap my last kiss in a bandage
I'll wrap my last kiss in a bandage

No doubt the dark-minded and totally fucked-up among you will have thoroughly enjoyed that, I know I did!

The track is from the album musick to play in the dark2

For the curious, the movie used in the video is called L'Homme Que Ment or The Man Who Lies

Are you susceptible to humming and whistling when you hear something special?

Best not listen to this one then.  I believe Mono (as in the British band here not the Japanese one), took their influences from various Jazz musicians and mixed it with their love for old spy movie soundtracks.  It resulted in a slightly industrial-sounding melancholy.  Life in Mono is one of those tracks and it's damned beautiful in my opinion.  Their album 'Formica Blues' reached miserable chart positions, a sure sign of what a bullshit, cut-throat industry it is.  As far as I can tell, they formed in 1996 but had called it a day by 2000 - crazy for such a talented duo.

Makes me wonder where all the ears have gone:

An all time favorite of mine too, they are taken together with the Bristol sound of the trip hop movement in the mid 90's.

Crustation is another gem of a trip hop band. A lot of their tracks are grimey and wistful and brooding and the lead female vocalist is very good sounding indeed. 3 producers contributed to their album and it sounds good even today.
