Memory Tweak For Xp

These Settings will fine tune your systems memory

management -atleast 256MB of ram recccomended

go to start\run\regedit -and then to the following key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

1.DisablePagingExecutive -double click it and in the decimal put a 1 - this allows XP to keep data in memory now
instead of paging sections of ram to harddrive yeilds faster performance.

2.LargeSystemCache- double click it and change the decimal to 1 -this allows XP Kernal to Run in memory improves system
performance alot

3.create a new dword and name it IOPageLockLimit - double click it and set the value in hex - 4000 if you have 128MB of
ram or set it to 10000 if you have 256MB set it to 40000 if you have more than 512MB of ram -this tweak will speed up
your disckcache

Reboot and watch your system fly

I just tried these settings (and rebooted).

I can’t say XP is any faster than it was before…

How can I actually test this?

not all tweaks work for everyone :) trial and error - mostly error - but sometimes you can get pretty good performance, depending on your installation/hardware. there are a lot of sites that feature XP tweaks.

do a little google :)

well, these tweaks seem to be meant for PCs with very small amounts of RAM. as soon as you have more than 128 Mb in your PC, you wont have any of the problems this tweaks fix.

1 gb running in dual channel here. I tried tip 1 and my PC was slow like a turtle…

The whole point about memory-swapping (writing and reading chunks of memory to/from disk) is that when you run out of RAM, you usually still have more space on the HD. At the time you really need the swapspace, you will regret doing tricks like these…

…but unfortunately the memory-handling in windows is very bad written and swap out memory arbitrary even when it is not necessary…
btw, the easiest way to turn of the paging file in windows xp is to do it from the settings (control panel->system->advanded->performace->settings->advanced->virtual memory->change->no panging file). as martinal is saying this isn’t anything to recommend though… buy more physical memory instead

apps and programs can sometimes address an unreasonable amount of RAM. so putting a decently sized page file can be a good idea. this is more efficient. i would advise against disabling the page file altogether on modern systems. just don’t set it too big. windows xp and onward have a fairly good memory management technique. (if you have win98, after 512mb of ram, it will start to have problems.)
