Finally put out a little EP

Aggressive techno / electro sort of stuff I guess. Let me know what you think!

Nice stuff in its way, although I find it a bit too inharmonious for my tastes.

Still, the rhythms are well put together and I like the use of sampling on 50mcg. It has a style - not my style, but it’s stylish.

Pretty good balance between elements, all around.

Thanks man, appreciate the feedback. I’ve never been big on melodies I’m afraid

I like it. Tough stuff.

First track bass tears with its charge and power. Music is of course “special”, for interesting statesJ. But sound as it is plunges into this state. Sound quality is good, as well as instrument presentation. Great work.

Enjoying this!

Year of the fist

I like how the rhythm is very, pushing? Like it drives you, pulls or sucks you along. It just, grooves. I dunno how to explain it, well done

I personally dig the disharmonic sound a lot. Keeps the focus on the rhythm, plus adds a certain agressive feel. And for the elements in which this track excels, there’s no real use for harmony or melody anyway. In particular I like the beepy thing that starts in the break at 2:08, and then how it continues into the rest of the track.

Very well done, I’m impressed how well everything fits together.

If there’s one point of constructive critique (and I’m reaching, here–supertiny detail), it’s the vocal samples in the background. Didn’t notice them at first until after a bit, then paid attention to them (I always think vocal samples are interesting), seems they’re trying to do two jobs at once, and not quite succeeding in either. One is providing creepy atmosphere, but for some reason they don’t quite get there (maybe it’s because they’re unintelligible, maybe it just needs some creepy basement cellar reverb), and the other is of course, providing rhythmical elements by chopping up the sample (a technique that I love to hear). But I think they’re just a bit too “in the background” to do that job properly. Maybe adjust their envelopes (or fx layer) to give them a bit more “punch” in the attacks?

The bass synth beep starting at 0:51 could use a bit more “dirty”, it’s one of the cleanest sounding beeps in the track. Until at about 1:04 when it gets submerged in other dirty crunchy sounds, and it doesn’t really matter anymore

50mcg Tablets

Has a bit more classic industrial tune to it, right from the start. The sound of that three-note tune could use a bit more “bite”, IMHO. Especially when it changes into a different synth at 0:33, and after that build finishes. I’ve been listening a lot to Music for the jilted generation this week, and the Prodigy has a lot of great examples of such short biting stabby tunes, for inspiration (different musical style of course, but look out for those short crunchy beeps in, say, Poison and Voodoo People). I suppose Liam automates the hell out of those short sequences.

I like Year of the Fist better (not that you asked for a comparison :-P). It has more of a “deliberate” feel to it. The more disharmonic sounds also make it a more rememberable and unique (IMO). I dunno what you did to the rhythm to make it so pumping and pulling me in, but maybe you can do the same to 50mcg

I also think 50mcg might benefit from cutting hard into a really catchy/powerful “hook”, different from what’s currently in the track, after the first build/break. Maybe craft some cool beepy effect/tune/loop sound, drop it into the spotlight like it’s the best thing since the TB-303 (crowd goes wild, etc), rave on it for a little, then continue the rest of the track and bring it back in a more muted version near the end (even better if you can bring it back in a more powerful plus-plus-awesome version near the end, but (in my experience) it’s not always easy to stack yet another superlative on a sound that was powerful to begin with).

edit: again just to remind, this feedback is basically just a braindump of whatever I feel and can think of when listening to these tracks. please don’t take any of it personally, it’s just … feedback. you asked for feedback, there I give it  it’s a bit more, and more honest feedback than I’d give a track when not prompted, but I figure, better more information than less. I hope that’s proper for this subforum. anyway if you think “that’s bullshit, I like it better this way”, that’s perfectly valid and possibly after consideration I would even agree, because you’re the musician and I’m just commenting on a song I played maybe 1.5-2 times.

Cheers for constructive critique triple zero, definitely appreciate the detail you put into this!

Yeah I’d agree maybe I should have done a bit more with the vocal stuff, it’s already a pretty hectic tune and I was trying to avoid having too much stuff going on at once but maybe they need to be pushed forward a bit / have a bit more going on with some automated fx.

Yeah I think I tried to make it more of a dance track than Year of the Fist, maybe it ended up in a weird place where it’s a bit repetitive.

Thanks again for giving them a listen dude. :walkman:
