If you are interested, please listen to my new track:

Please don’t stop in the middle: it has a little surprise at the ending…

Again: feel free to comment/ criticise! The tunes are always meant to be a kind of work in progress.

Yours,

Thomas

Glitchy track… Well i guess you nailed it. I don’t know much about the genre. Did you feel like you did your best with this track? I don’t mean that in a rude way… It’s just that you said “don’t stop in the middle” as if you feel that’s what the listener may most likely do. You also talked about the ending as if you’re proud of it. I’ll be honest, that’s mainly why I’m commenting on the track… I really enjoyed the ending. I think you captured a moment that you were going for.

If you do feel like you sort of ‘settled’ on the rest of the track then maybe rest on it and revisit it in a few days. See what else could work with the ending of the song. Challenge yourself even more, it could be very rewarding. If you enjoy the whole song then good job! leave it. I see how the whole track is connected, but as a listener, I felt that the ending didn’t climax (which is fine) but rather evolved into something that struck a chord with me. It makes me just want to skipped to the ending when I listen to it. But good job. I’m glad I checked it out.

I said i enjoyed the ending… But I like to skip to the 2:40 mark to be specific.

I remember reading recently that: “You can make a synth sound like literally anything, [and with all of that] timbral and spatial possibility, you need to keep other elements simple and predictable or the listener will be totally overwhelmed.” – http://www.ethanhein.com/wp/2014/whats-missing-from-music-theory-class/

I think this is why the ending grabs me better than the beginning. The beginning needs something predictable to anchor all the unpredictable elements.

Hey there!

Cool, thank you for sharing your opinions with me. Great answers, that make me think (and listen and read) again!

@somuchdirt74: please don’t overinterpretate what I was writing in my first post about the ending. You are right though: I shouldn’t have mentioned it at all because now it got kind of into the focus of the discussion. I actually did so because I wanted everybody to listen to the whole track- but not because of the part itself but because of the relations between the parts (and your views about that).

@MattD: do you have an idea, what this “something” you are refering in your last sentence could be in this track?

Yours,

Thomas

Maybe something like really brief guitar or piano chords playing a familiar chord progression. I’m thinking in particular of the guitar you hear at the start of Anamanaguchi’s_Pop It_. That song has a lot of really wild stuff going on in it, but it’s always anchored by more predictable elements, so it works.

Alright, thank you for the hint! Listened to the track you mentioned, not 100% sure where/what is the guitar though…anyway- I like it! But I guess it is rather the groove itself that anchors the other things in this song. In the case here I thought you meant something else: something about harmony/ melody that anchors the groove! I think I know what you want to say though. Thanks a lot, man!

Yours,

Thomas

Nice, thank you very much! Sure, I know “The Exploding Psychology”…very good track (and also video, by the way). I think, you kind of got it with your post.
