Modulation envelopes don't show what is really happening?

Load any sample, create modulation, add lfo, play sound and move by delay. As you can hear, lfo is running in different moments than modulation editor shows.
Ive experienced other simillar envelope representation problem in past and in different situations also (mainly with longer envelopes not showing whole release etc. i think).

The modulation preview is updated instantly, but modulations are applied and (fully) updated with every new note only, so you will need to (re)trigger notes to apply the changes to the sound.

Thank You.
And What about this?
I would assume this:

  1. Release should sounds much longer.
  2. It should respect envelope device and i should see these changes made by envelope device (zooming out?).

It can’t show an exact preview here, cause the duration of the release phase depends on the actual volume the note was played at when you released the note. If you quickly release a note in your example it’s still in the attack phase. It has a lower volume then and thus fades out more quickly too than a note which got held longer. Depending on how quickly you release the note, the envelope also has a different sustain point / duration, cause it has not yet reached the sustain point.

In this case the only way show “exact” previews would be generating snapshots for every single note after they got played back, so Renoise knows at which volume they got triggered, when exactly it got released and so on. But this is not really a preview anymore but a capture: similar to what you see in the scopes or when rendering out a sound.

This may be confusing, yes, but I still think the preview is very useful in many scenarios, even when it can’t preview “everything” that may happen with the sound. It’s a preview after all…

I learn something every day and it makes absolute sense. Thank you Taktik.
Nothing has to changed i assume. The preview is usefull.

So if i am the only one who had been confused, this forum can be deleted i suppose :-).
