fade in pattern command

I just cannot figure 0Ixx (fade in) pattern command out. How does it work? Can someone please tell me? I tried everything and logically I tried the last option which I attached the screenshot in this message but still I can’t make it work…

Your note is playing at full velocity, so how can it fade in? Try putting 00 in the volume column. :slight_smile:

Without putting 00 in the volume column, 0Ixx fade in pattern effect doesn’t work?

What I don’t understand is that if I already put numbers in the volume column like 00 10 20 30 40 50 … it is already fade in… so what is the reason for using 0Ixx effect if I use already volume column?

The 0Ixx effect is doing fade-ins much more smoothly, with tick level precision (default is twelve per line).

This means that you avoid the audible ‘steps’ that you would otherwise have when entering 00, 10, 20 etc.

Otherwise, you would always have to use insane LPB values for simple things like a smooth fade :slight_smile:

Another advantage is that when working with several pattern columns it would be a lot more work fading with volume columns than simply pasting the I20 or whatever continuously.

Also the fade in fades by a certain amount no matter what the velocity starting point is, while the volume column simply changes the level/velocity to a certain value.

So basicallyFade volume in by xx volume units in 0Ixx for example when I put continuously 0I50, the volume increases till it hits the volume 50?

No. The xx value does not define the target volume. Rather, it defines the speed at which the fade will occur. In this case, it will smoothly increase the volume by 0x10 (16) units every pattern line.

So if you wish to gradually slide from silence to volume level 50, then you can repeat the 0I10 command 5 times, like so:

--- -- 0I10
--- -- 0I10
--- -- 0I10
--- -- 0I10

You can use lower values like 0I08 (repeated more times) if you want to go slower, or higher values like 0I20 (repeated fewer times) if you want to go faster.
