16 velocity Piano .xrni

I didn’t upload this to Renoise Downloads because I didn’t create the samples. (And also because it’s freakin huge.) They do appear to be public domain though, as everything here is supposed to be:

This has been my favorite free piano for a long time, so I finally bit the bullet and made an .xrni. The soundfont is still better because it incorporates release samples, which increases the realism. Not every single note is sampled, but there are enough samples for each one to only have to be pitched up and down one semi tone to fill out the keyboard. It’s really a beautiful piano.

1.77 gigs?

That is way to much for me. I like saving new copies quite often and i get bothered by the saving time with 100mb, i can’t imagine how long it will take to save copies with this one in it.

Do you really think the size is worth it? I’ll download to check it out, maybe i can compress it to mp3 or something.

Yeah it’s worth it if you want a quality sounding piano. Honestly the really really good pianos should be at least 3 times larger. Yeah, the copies thing sucks, which is why I’m hoping that’s fixed when Redux rolls out. The ability to load external .xrni’s is pretty important since the release of 3.0 increased the sample cap. Whether it be drum kits, pianos, something grabbed by the plugin grabber, or something else, I have a lot of .xrni’s now that are freakin huge and having to make a copy of them for every single song I want to use them in is kind of a pain in the ass. Less of a pain in the ass now that I have a 1 TB SSD purely for storage though.

But yeah I’d still say it’s worth it, though if you don’t mind using plugins use a .sfz player plugin and the .sfz from the first link instead, then you won’t have the copies problem, and you’ll also get the release samples.

Looking at the piano folder i see the SF2 version is 28MB? Now i’m confused.

Oh this is the salamader one?

Yes, the salamander one has a few different formats available. I use the ogg vorbis one and I’m happy with that but maybe I’m not that picky.

The 28 mb one only has 5 velocity layers. The second one down in the list is the good one, 1.3 gb.

Thanks Carbontheif, always good to have a sampled piano. Even if it is 5% of my total sample library!

I tip my hat to you

1.77 gb is really huge. So every song using this instrument will get huge too, right? Its time, that renoise get an option to exclude samples from song and load it from source instead.

heres another - weighing in at 304mb, its a featherweight!

thanks very much man been looking for a decent piano, waiting for it to download!

Just an FYI, this is completely pointless now, my work now wasted, because Renoise can now just import the .sfz. And then you get all the extra samples for note off ambience and pedal noise etc. Mine is way smaller though, so if you don’t have much RAM might stick with the one I made. Renoise is currently using 2.7 GB of RAM with nothing but this .sfz loaded.

Why not incorporate the release samples (even though yeah I guess it’s pointless now)? I’ve done something similar with some samples from an old 2002 sampler disk I have (can’t post it, still under copyright) and just put the releases on the note-off layer, sounds pretty good. Nice work btw, thanks for putting it together even though sfz loading is now possible
