Drum Break Editing?

Hi guys.

Well, recently I have been listening “Ruby my Dear” a lot, and this question was bugging me for a while now:

Now, I have heard a lot of different breakcore artists, but none of them had a drum sound that sounded anything like the stuff “ruby my dear” programs.

Those two songs are good examples:

https://youtu.be/sn6v3cmGhzI?t=2m29s

Now, my question is quite hard to explain…

What is going on there?<<<

As far as I can tell:
-His break-slices are very, very short.
-He probably uses some “Room Reverb”
-He works with either a very high BPM or many lines per beat
-There are a lot of pitch (up and down) slides on his drums

That’s all I can point out by listening to it. But that can’t be all, can it? I mean…his drumbreaks just sound so…unique in some way.

It would be cool if you guys could help me out

I was checking the redux demo today.

The “djeroek pack -> breaks -> backsteppa” example is very similar to the “ruby my dear” youtube videos (set redux at about 200BPM).

If you take a look at the samples used in that example and find out how everything was set up in redux (loops points, modulation, effects) I think that will be how to do those sort of drums nicely.

I don’t know man… in the first video it sounds like straight forward Think break to me. What’s so special about it?

If you look at the Easter Egg Drumkit in the download section (http://forum.renoise.com/index.php/files/file/205-easter-egg-drumkit/), the ‘Glitch’ macro does something that in my ears sounds a bit similar to what’s going on here. The drum samples doesn’t sound similar though, but perhaps if you switch the samples with your own maybe you’ll get something that sounds close to it?

The glitch is just some fast modulations that should be fairly easy to make on any drumkit.
