Could you explain why someone would buy SynthMaster (or similar synths such as Sylenth etc.) rather than SynthEdit or Reaktor (or similar synth creators)?
I think it’s mostly about usability and workflow. If you are experienced with Reaktor and you like it, I guess you won’t need any other synth ever. But if you are looking for some special synthesis features (reactor engine and concept is maybe a bit ancient now) or you are looking for a working horse (“horse” is a bit overused around here) / workstation synth which provides a most easy workflow to create complex presets, Synthmaster is maybe the right one. It’s really capable of almost anything in synthesis. Personally I tried it, but failed (I am not so satisfied with the unison features for example, they don’t sound so good to my ears). On the other hand, you will get osc sync, fm, ring mod, various kinds of osc types, a lot of distortion units (pre- / post-filter), lot of filter types (i like the digital one), two parallel or serial filters and also a bunch of internal fx (with doesn’t sound solo gigantic if you compare it for example to UHE Hive). So you will get almost everything you need. Like buying an expensive hardware workstation. You can also use two layers. Synthmaster can sound like a digital synth or an analog one.
I did not dive too deep into synthmaster. On some points synthmaster quite leaves the standards, so the learning curve is a bit hard. But if you are used to it, I guess it’s a really good choice. Lot of people are happy with it, as far as I read about.
Synlenth for example has no osc sync, so I really do not know, why so many people love it. It’s quite boring. I would say key features are: unison, sync, ring mod, pre- and post-filter distortion, 2 filters parallel / serial at least, lp12-24, hp12-24, bp at least, analog / random detuning, a bunch of osc wave types (not only saw, sine, sqr, tri, noise)… FX do not matter so much I would say, there are enough plugins for that. Would suggestion something like these: U-He Zebra, Dune 2, Predator, Synthmaster2 for a all-in-one solution.
