Renoise fails to open MME and WDM Midi device

I’m trying to run Cubase 8 (64bit) as a master and Renoise 3 (64 and 32 bit) as a slave on Windows7. When I open Renoise I get a failure message if my Impact LX49 is assigned as an midi in device. If I open the applications by themselves, I have no problem using my midi controller, it’s only a problem with Renoise in slave mode.

I’ve tried messing with loopMIDI, but I’m honestly not sure how I’m supposed to configure it in Cubase, and haven’t gotten anywhere through trial and error.

If I disable loopMIDI and try to access my midi controller I get a fail to open MME device error, if I try to set up loopMIDI I get a WDM error.

On Windows, a MIDI device can usually only be accessed by a single application at any given time. If your MIDI controller is being used by Cubase, then you probably won’t be able to use it in Renoise when both applications are open, and vice versa.

However, you can use such software like http://www.hermannseib.com/english/multimid.htm if you need to have the midi port accessible to both programs. Alternatively, simply disable it in Cubase in your device settings.

Thanks for the replies. I can’t believe it’s 2015 and this is still a thing. Something I took for granted on my mac.
