It's when playing the selected range of audio in the wave editor by hitting Enter/Return, a few ms after the selection is also played, sounds like Renoise is just trying to fade out after the selection range. It's most obvious if there's a strong rising pulse 1~2ms after selection, you'll always hear some clicking from the afterward signal.

Is this intended behavior?

Can not replicate this here. Any chance to get a few more details about this? Does it happen with any sample or a specific one?

Renoise also isn't fading in/out something here, so if the selection does not end at zero crossing it will and should click.

When playing back such selections on the selected track and the selected track currently is playing back something, both will interfere with each others. Maybe this is the problem?

Try this sample (just a modified factory snare with inserted silence), select the loop range and play the selection with editor play button.

Or this one with just a 1 sample pulse, place a selection halfway thru the file and keep pressing return/enter while moving the selection, it's clearly more louder as the end point getting near the pulse.

Oh, remembered this wrong. We indeed do a tiny little fade out here, just like we do for sample playback in general. Without that stopping sample playback in the middle of sample would result into little clicks everywhere.

In this case such clicks are intended, so I'll remove the fading here.

How about an option for both?

I think there was a discussion some time ago about auto-fading sample playback, it can be an option at song level. (but this kind of detailed option is what bugs me most about Reaper, hehe.)
