Lazr Tag (First ReNoise song)

Yay! I got ReNoise! It’s about time I stop using crappy free DAWs.

So here’s the link to the song:

I’ve only been messing with ReNoise for two weeks (only 6 days total because of school) and I’m a total noob. I haven’t even touched half of the features yet.

Anyways, I’ve found that ReNoise is really good for making melodies and bass drops. At least for my process of making a song.

I can’t wait to see what stuff I can make once I get more experience!

Can you guys give me some valuable feedback on the song? I’m sick of one-word answers when I ask people what they think of my songs.

I’d also really LOVE to also hear some of your tips and tricks for workflow in ReNoise that you think I should know.

Interesting work, honest and open. I liked dirty overloaded kick and synth sound, although the track seems to lack sub-bass. You could also try to make bass in several layers with different levels of reverberation to create the space effect. In the middle of the track there is big space where the synth soloes. In my opinion, it could be ultimately filled with a sample (e.g. old school sci-fi series or cartoon). Although the synth has a kind of speaking function, you may as well try this one. I also liked the synth patterns: it’s interesting how you made it speak. Generally, the track sounds quite energetic, aggressive and minimal. As for the drums, you could try to make a section with percussion so as to add some groove by letting the rhythm to float (though you are free to choose – it may happen that you do not like this groove in your track and it’s understandable). All in all, you could add some stuff into the drum section (hats, percussion, snares, delay, accents, syncopes) or remove them all – it’s up to you. It depends on what you want to achieve and what you particularly like about the track.

On the site there are a lot of projects and you might want to look through them. Try to start with the two latest Mutant Breaks: there are many different projects in different styles. You may analyze them, make a remix if agreed with the author: make yourself at home. You also could use the site search: it’ll help you to find the information really fast. There is a large base. Here are a couple of links which could help in your creativity:
