Use plug in grabber for hardware?

I know this has to have been covered somewhere else, but I was wondering if there was a way to use the plug in grabber for external instruments? (or something in similar fashion?)

I’d like to take the time sampling old midi module presets (as some are really interesting), but going note by note, trying to play consistent velocity is a bit hard through manually recording samples and what not through the instrument editor.

Or is there an easier way to do things that I’m missing? (like inputting notes in the pattern editor then converting that to samples or something? Or some sort of tool I’m missing?)

Thanks

Weird, I was sure someone did a tool for this. But perhaps people used this one instead?

Still, it’s certainly possible and I say let’s make it happen. Who’s with me?

Would be totally awesome to have this!!!

This would be like Christmas morning.

  • until then, there’s some good tips

Useful also as inspiration for a tool

For example, the only way to get the advantage of latency compensation etc. would be to create a whole new song, based on the settings you specify.

Then, the tool would render that song, pattern by pattern, and piece the whole thing together as an instrument.

A nice side effect of this would be that perhaps you could tinker a bit with the song (say, adding some mod-wheel movements)and then run the tool again. Heck, even saving the song to disk and loading it back again would be possible if the tool stores information in the pattern sequence…

This will be useful, thanks! (I just noticed it can make renoise instruments, very neat!)

A way to do it in renoise natively would definitely be nice as the plug in grabber seems like it should be really easy to work with external gear. I almost wish I could just have the source be “Line In” and have a midi out destination to send note and velocity data. (Or maybe a vst which just does that as I haven’t really looked yet). Just an idea though…

@robohymn - thanks for the link (/bookmarks for future reading!)

Will be conducting some experiments on my own tomorrow or so, since I have been giving this more thought throughout the day…
