Things are, and have been, a bit shaky over at Soundcloud lately. I'm not huge over there at all or anything, so therefore I can easily switch to another service w/o losing anything (or much). So, the question is...

What is a good alternative to Soundcloud?

Just somewhere where I can upload the few finished songs I make and let people listen to them.

I know about Bandcamp, but it seems like you have to have a whole album finished to publish there. And Beatport looks like it's more towards dance and mixed music. Mixcloud and Mixcrate are two other ones I've checked out.

Or would the best alternative be to make my own music-page on my website?

Like a blog in the old-school days before all these sound-hosting-services became a thing. I'd have no problem with ads or suddenly being charged for using service. But I won't have the same publish and get noticed ability as in an "proper" sound-hosting-site.

Thoughts?

You can upload single tracks to Bandcamp. There's hearthis.at that offers similar functionality to Soundcloud.

I'd say it would be a good idea to do both your own site & other networks.

It's not the prettiest and it's not made for promoting artists, but if you only need a safe place to store your songs and share with others on other platforms, then Internet Archive is nice. Sound quality there is excellent and if you upload a wav it automatically converts it to multiple formats and adds these to the same page together with the original wav. The preview is mp3 only, but all files are downloadable. You can protect your work with a license.

Just +1'ing both of the above: Bandcamp can certainly host singles, and Internet Archive is dope -- there are entire labels on there, like Exegene

Wow! Interesting site! But do you just upload your files into the Audio-section and it'll just be there? Or can you create you own collection? #confused (sorry... had to hashtag there... #sorry (Sorry again!))

Really digging the Live Audio-section!

You can upload all your tracks to a single page or make one for each song. If you upload a track to an existing page it may not automatically convert to multiple formats, but i'm not really shure if i remember correctly.

You can add all kinds of data to make your track searchable, i use my artist name and real name in parentese under 'Creator', then it's easy to find back my old uploads.

I've looked into hearthis.at and it looks promising so far. Started a page there and think I will go for that one.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help, Reeps*

I like how it integrates Soundcloud. Using this, I can continue to use Soundcloud as normal, except that when I want to post a remix or a mash-up I will upload it to Freshrotation instead of to Soundcloud. It's not ideal, but it sure beats shedding all my followers and plays to start from scratch somewhere.

I got me a profile, here: http://freshrotation.com/wrong

Some fresh news on the topic: It's not dead yet

http://www.recode.ne...loud-investment

I never thought it was "dead" or "dying". Good for Twitter, but it doesn't matter how much money or who invests in a site more so what the site does and behaves. Bill Gates can invest all the money he has in a company, but if the company acts like an ass that investment doesn't matter for us customers in the end.

Anyway, all I'm saying is that I was looking for a Soundcloud-alternative (decided on hearthis.at). May Soundcloud live on and prosper, but I'm not going to be a part of it.

Peace!!  ^_^

Note: Yes, I know, Bill Gates has nothing to do with Twitter... or Soundcloud. It was just an example.

YouTube (just add some creative background image for the videos), everybody's there anyway so why not use that even it's not a music service per se.

Isn't YouTube quite anal about copyrighted music/sounds in videos?

Yeah true but if it's your own music, how could it be?

Idk... haven't there been cases where people got a copyright strike using their own music? Or is that from a dream I had?  :smashed:

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but as a renoise user myself I have had this page bookmarked for a long time. I have been developing an audio hosting service over the past 3 years as an alternative to SoundCloud and want to share it here in case any of you might be interested.

Here it is: https://mixolicious.com/

Check the FAQ page for an overview of what it's about, and feel free to contact me through the website if you have any questions. Thanks.
