Hello everyone,

2 days ago i found out about renoise with Brian Johnson’s youtube channel as i was already searching for a tracker. And im really surprised about it, in two days i have yet understand the basic fonctioning of the soft. A lot of thanks to Renoise channel, those tutorial videos are simply excellent.

Actually, i was searching for a tracker to mess around with drum breaks, slice them, and do some stuff with it. As i love jungle sound and finding the actual scene a bit poor i’d like to get myself a toe in it, in all modesty of course ! Because i never really get myself into DAW. So i decided to create an account on here because it seems like a cool place to ask for some help.

First of all why the hell the cursor in pattern editor goes down 2by2 with mousewheel !? Must have click on something without knowing

And then have you any tips about jungle sound making, and maybe ressources ? i searched a bit but not that much to be honest.

I’ll try get somethings done to show you off as i am really impatient to have some feedback.

EDIT: i forgot to mention that i have access to an akai mpk25, is it in any way useful for something apart from using the piano ?

Wow seems I could learn tons from this Brian Johnson guy, thanks for mentioning that channel!

First of all why the hell the cursor in pattern editor goes down 2by2 with mousewheel !?

My tongue-in-cheek reply would be “because Renoise wants you to use the keyboard”

But technically, some input device drivers might be able to affect how things work?

I know my former mouse (some microsoft one) had a driver which could be configured to slower scrolling.

My personal opinion: in a keyboard-centric software like Renoise, I much prefer fast mouse wheel scrolling.

Combined with the keyboard shortcuts, it’s fast and easy to pinpoint any position in a pattern.

For example, use the shortcuts to set the editstep: CMD/CTRL + [number]

Then use the shortcut CMD/CTRL+SHIFT+Arrow Up/Down to navigate using that editstep interval…

And then have you any tips about jungle sound making, and maybe ressources ?

I think the best way to learn, besides the tutorials is to check out other peoples tracks and see how they work out different ideas, there are multiple ways to Rome, not one right way to do it. Through remixing, re-arranging, re-abusing existing songfiles you’ll be up & running in no time .

Yep that what i did with the slicing tuto to do my first chopped break. Big thanks for the songfile, i’ll check it out.

Also, im using demo version for now, is there some things that i can’t do that i should know of ?

edit, By looking at Msymiakos’ song i was wondering how important it is to change line per beat and line per pattern, for now im a bit scared to change them because of how it can affect the rythme writing, don’t know if i well explained it.

Also, when in the sampler editor, on the waveform can i adjust the value on the top without using markers ?
