Phrases don't respect samples' base note when sample column is

Create a sampled instrument and set its base note to E-2. Then make a phrase (keep sample column disabled) and enter E-2 as the first line. Now show the sample column – the note changes from E-2 to C-4 00.

If you enter E-2 at this point, the sample is transposed way down…

Is there some way to get the phrase editor to respect the sample’s base note?

I see what you mean, it’s easier when everything fits nicely “in C”.

But the point of the sample column mode is that sample playback isn’t relying on key-zones.

What you could do instead is to apply some amount of transpose to the sample instead, via sample properties.

Gotcha. Seems the tradeoff with phrases & sample selection is when you’re using percussive sounds vs harmonic sounds. With percussive sounds it totally makes sense to make C-4 the center when selecting the sample. With harmonic sounds, it doesn’t make much sense. I can try the transpose though…
