Which tools you couldn't live without?

Topic just 4 fun and 4 thanking the tool creators…

AKA “Which tools you couldn’t live without and should be Renoise native”

Me:

Rubberband timestretch & pitch shift by suva

GetPluginParams by voois

Sort Instruments by joule

Convert Instrument Number by Ledger

Auto Track Colors by strobotone

And sure… I use a lot more. But these are the ones I use on a daily base.

Thank you all great tool-creators!

dAnushri for creating unexpected rhythms.

Nudge, though a goal of mine is to one day understand just WTF goes on when trying to select and move notes.

Full Stop, which stops everything (fx, etc.) when you stop a song.

Recent Files, which makes loading the last edited or last saved song a snap.

Convert Instrument, to change all the notes in a track or track-pattern to a different instrument.

Weirdly enough, none of my own tools are on a must-have list. My New From Template is handy but lately I have a default new file template the works 99% of the time

I have been working on a variation of Track Comments that allows for comments per track-pattern. I might be making more use of that as time goes on.

I feel like I use tools a lot but when I think about it I can’t think of any I couldn’t live without. I didn’t know about the Scale Finder, that is going to change things a lot for me.

I really like dAnushri as well.

The only tool being an absolute given to me is my “Better column navigation” - https://forum.renoise.com/t/new-tool-3-1-better-column-navigation/46034

It’s just a small patch to fix the “broken” tab behavior in the Renoise pattern editor.

Other than that, it depends on what I feel like doing  I don’t have any other tool that I rely on all the time, or that I feel I must have installed.

Share your favorite tools, great idea!

SliceMatehas quickly become essential to how I work.
And I’ve been using Better Column Navigation for the longest time without even noticing.
So these are definitely favorites of mine - both very focused and tightly integrated.

Other than that, there are tools that fit with particular stages of song writing:
creative stage / composing + structure / mixdown.

I’ve done a lot of contributions, particularly in the creative zone. But for the structure bit, one tool stands out for me:
I find Alias Indentical Tracks to be essential after a recording session (which in turn could be facilitated by AutoClonePatterns).

I might post a follow-up mentioning some tools that I find relevant for each of these stages, because there are a lot to choose from.

Btw: when you write this:

Thank you all great tool-creators!

I was thinking, I’d be curious for someone like djeroek to share his findings too. Because this guy is probably the one who has offered the most feedback and bug reports on tools on this forum.
So while it’s nice to be creating tools (to me, it’s a creative endeavour just like writing music), I think things could be in a sad state if no-one picked them up and offered feedback.

Renoise Freesound Integration

That one is using an old version of the Freesound API, use this version instead?

Don’t forget shameless (tool/feature) requests as well  , but cheers!

I have a bunch that are enabled by default like auto-minimizing the non selected track dsp, handy for better overview when using a bunch of fx in the track dsp tab. Same for a script that auto collapses the diskop after loading a song file. Not spectacularly handy, but I love renoise can be tweaked like this through scripting, customizing ones workflow through little things like these.

Over time I’ve used a lot of tools, too many to mention, but heres a few I always come back to;

Cdp tool: goes without saying, excellent for sample editor sample mangling. My go-to tool for dsp stuff.

Automasher: powerfull automation generator.

Don’t have time to go through a long list of honoroble mentions, but perfect thread for thanking all tool makers for their work, may it rain down good karma on all of you!

Hey, I’m happy to hear you’re still using that one. The smallest tool I ever wrote:
