Hi guys,

what retro machine or sampler did contain the following "orch hit" sound?

https://youtu.be/SVOuYquXuuc?t=19

Heard this one in a bunch of 80s stuff, but maybe it actually was sampled from here and not contained on some roland drummachine or whatever?

Don't know what machine contain it IRL.

But you have all sorts of these 80s/90s sounds on the very good (and free) VSTi call Rave Generator 2 by Wavosaur.

Unfortunately, it is a very old sample from the Fairlight synthesizer.

EDIT: Hm, I really think Wikipedia is wrong.

EDIT: Hah! So it is not a fairlight sample, but instead the right channel of that funk inc song's orchhit!

Nope. Completely diff. The fairlight samples were taken from an orchestra, the Yes' one is sampled from the funk inc song I linked above.

Don't trust everything written in the internet. Test yourself, download the song I linked above using jdownloader, then copy right channel to left channel. It is a huge difference.

Take a listen:
ORCH5.WAV
orchhit-funk-inc.wav

Oops, sorry, I didn't see your YouTube link...

For the rest, yes, I know that there are errors on WhoSampled (and many more on the Internet).

But I like this website because I can discover unknown sources of wellknown songs.

So your second link is clearly the good one, whereas orch5 is not !

WhoSampled is wrong for this time  :P
