Looking for Competitions

Hello all,

I am looking for tracking competitions and wondering if there is a good place to find regular (maybe once a month or week) tracking competitions. I really would like to find something like a couple hour (like 2 hours) compo or maybe something that happens over the course of a week. Are there any good places to look for these?

don’t know of any but if you find one link me

or if you want to host one here …ill be glad to participate

One Synth Challenge is a nice monthly contest, though not specifically for trackers, but the point is using exclusively one specific synth per round:

#idea

Rules:

Renoise only:

-fx

-instruments

-tools

No foreign vsti or vst fx, no foreign samples…

Competition played out on the forums by its users

Different Genres per cycle e.g. house, techno, hiphop

incl. more spec.subgenres, like deephouse, glitch, minimal, triphop

Competition sets an end-date for final submissions for each genre/cycle.

Moderators pick best track as the final jury & winner becomes demotrack

in renoise for next release/s, eventually a prepick via users in the forums.

With that; new exciting competitions in the forums, new renoise native fun &

experiences, maybe new tools (: new instruments & efx chains etc.

plus final quality songs presented in/by renoise & picked by the developers.

just an idea…let me know, I’m in (:

I liked the ‘challenges’ that Byte Smasher used to post here. Small and fun exercises in Renoise-fu happy.png

For example, the 13 second challenge:

https://forum.renoise.com/t/13-second-challenge/28087

IMO it’s a good format - limitations are often the spark that creativity needs.

I like the renoise native only compo idea. It might seem archaic at first, if you are used to using VSTs. But it is a very interesting and fruitful limitation. I’d for sure try to participate in such compo, if I get enough time to work on the entry (no speed compos for me, my brain is too damaged to be pressed into hectic mode).

Given the nature of renoise as a sampler, it might be a nice idea to release sample packs for each round where use of a choice of samples inside is mandatory.

Ofc if there is thought of including songs as free content somewhere, sample licenses would have to be considered. There’s sources like freesound.org with lots of officially public domain samples. I suppose if the renoise crew would offer to include entrants as demo songs for renoise, stuff first has to be as legally unoffensive as possible regarding copyright.

But I fear there is a problem. We can only do it, if renoise crew would sponsor official bumper stickers for the top5 entries. Or at least for the top3. C’mon, if everything fails, maybe only the winner gets the big sticker, others only the flimsy small ones. Well because…after things done, people need something to stick on their forehead to let go of all the excitement & properly look like a moron. heh…

This is good!..furtheremore: where isByte Smasher!?!

With using instruments, you could also implement vsts within renoise; the idea of providing sample packs is good, lets keep #mutant breaks in mind, though. So Instruments only might be better, yet could include any kind of samples. A sticker for the winner would be pretty kewl :walkman:

cool who’s going to provide the sample packs…???

Lots of free packs out there (e.g.http://www.goldbaby.co.nz/freestuff.html))you could pick one pack as the source for samples, and stick to Renoise-native only stuff. Obviously render to sample is allowed :badteeth:

edit: or draw samples only, or record with mic… lots of different possibilities for competition ideas

I’m also in!
Both kind of challenges sound good actually.

why not a 13second renoise native only competition?

A provided Pack is necessarily the way to Go, Yet I would still keep it #renoise here; #instruments only, no free samples. This would work like this; people gather free samples for the competition from the net, then create #instruments, which could also include free vst’s (render to instrument) …with that we would create a pro - active & content providing competition & community. People would create Renoise Instruments, maybe also EFX - Chains, if needed for the Genre specific Competition & All submitted Songs would easily work, or could, as this is the Developers Card, as Demo Songs, with Renoise only Instrumensts & EFX.

any of us can host this…i guess the only responsability its to set some ground rules and …someone that keeps track of the votes !! \something simple

ok,

you host, me makes them rulez:

- Renoise Instruments only (incl.rendered vst & free samples)

- Renoise native efx & tools only (3rd party toolz is ok, too)

- Renoise only production DAW only (no Reaper rewired etc.)

- Renoise native synths/tools/superscripts (all allowed of course)

Host picks the Genre for the first round, may provide Instrument Pack, or addresses other users to provide; sets a Beginning & End - Date.
