It is good to... convert whistle to notes.

I use this technique, hum or whistle the tune with a bit of beatbox to get my idea flowing.
Just hover your mouse over the peak in the spectrometer or spectroscope and it will tell you both frequency and note.

It is not automatic, but it is quick and it is easy to use even to identify notes in a noisy sample with multiple instruments.
