Is it possible to start playing a sample say, from the middle of it or any other position that the beginning, using a MIDI keyboard ? I have placed a forward loop but Redux still starts from the beginning and not from the start mark of the loop.

Nope. The feature is called sample start and neither Renoise nor Redux had it.

Sure you can chop the sample up and start recording with your midi keyboard.Maybe this is not exactly what you have in mind but it works for me.

How do you easily know where is the best place to cut at the beginning and end in order to make a loop if you can’t try it before ? Especially with pads. You have 1:30 of a modulating pad and you’d like to really find the best start and end locations to extract the best of it.
Found it. By creating slices one can start the playing from the slice mark. And then save the slice that’s the best. So obvious. The original is not modified and the slices can be deleted and repositioned. And then within each slice it is possible to reposition the end marker of a forward loop for instance.
A bit more cumbersome than a modern ‘start and end anywhere right on the spot’ but it works.
