Launchpad pro help

Hi, I just bought a Launchpad pro to use as a sequencer for Renoise. I downloaded stepp0r to use as an interface between renoise and the launchpad but it doesn’t seem to work. The buttons don’t do what they say in the instructional videos. It’s also very confusing trying to figure out what the buttons are supposed to do since the pattern of lights on my launchpad seem completely random. My hope is to create a live rig setup with Renoise. Doesn’t need to be with Launchpad but would be great if I could get it to work. Any help would be appreciated :smashed:

I suppose that tool will use OSC. Did you activate OSC in Renoise? Before using a tool, look if this tool have any user’s guide.

Any tool will need specific output programming instructions to make the pads light up of your MIDI device, as well as specific input instructions for Renoise to react doing something, all this through MIDI, and commanded by OSC. Each device will need specific programming instructions.

Have you tried the Danoise Duplex tool? Supposedly he will keep her up to date. Maybe it will help you.

As far as I know, it’s quite easy to make Renoise react from any MIDI device through a tool through the MIDI input, but not vice versa. It is quite difficult to create a tool that makes your MIDI device illuminate/turn off its pads or buttons through the MIDI output. At least there are no clear API instructions to create them, nor any practical examples.

So should I just sell the pro and get a regular launchpad?

My hope was to create a simple way to play sequences on command from renoise. Nothing too fancy. Are there any other tools/ hardware devices which would allow me to do this simply?

Well, I do not know exactly what you want to control with your Launchpad Pro. I personally would not sell it. There are interesting tools to get certain controls. For example, Kangaroo120 allows you to quite customize the shooting of certain notes, it is designed for 8x8 pads. But if you want to control pattern firing, turn them off and things like that, this tool will not work for you.

What you seem to need is a specific tool for the Launchpad Pro, designed exclusively for her. But forget about achieving lighting effects like with Ableton. Basically, you have a device with buttons to shoot. The pads of the PRO are sensitive to the speed of pulsation, the launchpad does not. I find an excellent controller to shoot notes, and certain DAW controls, but little else.
