Some kind of Techno - Improving the mix. How to?

Here’s a track i’m working on since some days and I’m stuck with improving the mix. Do you think it sounds good (ok is not good enough  ) or do you see some deficits here?

If you know of something that sounds similar that would be great. I even have problems with the style… guess it’s techno?

Thanks and cheers :walkman:

up until 1.13min where the intro ends and you start introducing more percussion elements i would like if you swithc the atmospheric sound in the intro maybe fade it out over 4 bars and introduce a new one

also more effects and weird reverb like percussion sounding in the back can benefit the part from 1.13 min - 2.22

but i like it

which vst you use

Dope track!
You need to check your drums. Snare sounds like a carboard box, make it snappy and shorter the decay. And kick is way too thin/quiet. Maybe more percussions?

Great, thanks! The break after the intro is a good idea. The kick is already boosted, I think I have to exchange it.

About the genre in my opinion this is techno with an electronic/synthwave touch. Sound like some Jean-Michel Jarre tracks for example.

Nice track, very Jarre-ish :walkman: . Komu say right, your kick drum is a little bit weak, sound’s ok but it need a more gain. Try to reach the same level of the bass how starting point…

I made a newer version which is a bit faster:

Did it improve?

@Same Freaky Sound, Fabrice: I not so much into Jarre, but can you name an album which is comparable soundwise? Guess you mean the newer stuff from the 80s?

Do you mean the compilation or a single track of the album?

I felt a little warm in my heart while listening to your track.Congrats this came from inside of you for sure and that is what music is all about.

Yes me too. Track is simple and mix is big.

Hi Lilith, i can name Rendez Vous,https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URaWRK7vqDE

Your newer version is much more better, i like your feeling, very good :yeah:

The Jarre album sounds good, I didn’t know it. The youendewan track is not totally my cup of tea. I was trying today to improve the kick and downloaded Komus Global Warming entry. This improved a lot, really interesting to see how you use the Renoise effects (e.g. the LofiMat) to improve sounds.

Thanks! Was the LofiMat on the kick drum? Can’t remember right now

Hey now that you improved the drums, it started to sound like synthwave, vaporwave or something like that. Totally different vibe than the first one. I dig it.

Usually in synthwave the snare is heavily eq’d, You can try boosting around 100-200 Hz and see what it does, Then I would add bigger reverb, or gated reverb to the snare.

I’m on a new version again. I use a Linn-Kick sample now… it’s a struggle to get the kick and bass right. :panic:

I also try adding some reverb to the kick.

Yeah they are crucial part of that kind of track. Layering and adjusting different attack/decay settings for each layer sometimes work. Be careful when adding reverb.

For the Jarre sound I thought about The Time Machine from the album Electronica 1 (a really nice album, anyway)

How is this kick drum? It sounds a bit more aggressive. The snare should be louder I think… almost done, just adding some samples here and there …

Not 100% happy. Wonder if I should take other samples or get rid of them.
