Ya Basta!

Track from last year that made it to the surface because I couldn’t muster the energy to put epic-Devy style vocals on the top of it all. It is as it is.

All Renoise, and no guitars. All samples acutally :)

Link is in the sig:

:guitar: <— it’s that good

Good work there… man

Hey thanks :)

Yes, it’s very Kore… :yeah:

Oooh yeah !!

Fark man … I find myself listening your music more and more …
Rusted Tides is genious and that remix of Magic Dirt’s Vulcanella
is so immensly intense, gooooosebumbishly insane … !

So yeah, I’m grabbing this tune right now, hehe
Just wanted to let ya know I love thy vibe

Hey! For a long, long time I was thinking about making metal in Renoise, but I was sure it would sound crappy. You’ve proven me wrong. This is very neat stuff!

The guitars don’t sound very realistic, but sound really great, they just do their job. Thanks to this it doesn’t sound artificial, it just sounds synthetic :). I like it!

The track is a bit quiet, but if I turn the volume on my hi-fi up the powa of this song gets unleashed and by then it starts to sound AWESOME! Thumbs up!

Woot, many thanks BotB, we are glad you likes

Yes yes, more epic synthy darkness coming out from me soon. I love renoise so much - I’m finally getting closer to these tensions that have been in my head all along. I’d say Renoise is now 70% symbiotic with my creativity, and that’s unprecedented.

Yeah I really let some demons out of the box with Rusted Tides and Vulcanella… I felt like destroying the universe but instead I wrote some songs…

There are no guitars in this song. The two L-R distortion sounds are made from bass-mod sine wave samples holding either single notes or 5ths. I used the 900 code for ‘attack variance’ all throughout. The rest is just distortion and then EQ.

So it’s not as expresive as a real guitar. The fact of the matter is that I CAN play thrash metal on guitar: but not this fast and precise. So really I’m cheating!

I feel that drum programing makes a metal song in a tracker, and I was lucky here. These are the famous ns-kit samples. Well worth it if you want to do loud rock stuff. I could have gone to more effort to get extra pressure expressions. but I actually lost the original file. So this could have been better: now it’s just a spring-cleaning release.

I didn’t run a mastering limmiter on it because it was thick and mashed up enough as is. And yes, the intro is meant to blow your head off… hehe :D

Hehehehe, I know exactly wot you mean …

Your music has a soul. It clearly has a person behind it who is
trying to tell us something.
Or… in your case… trying to rub something in our faces :yeah:

I’ll be very much looking forward to your upcoming stuff !

About Ya Basta … yes, it pretty much comes down to wot I wrote above…
Music with a breathing soul ! Very thick and solid sound, the tune somehow
reminds me of Dream Theater at times, though not really with excessive
melodic progressions, but the way you cut up the rythm here and there
gets a somewhat simular drive going on.
Thrilling metal with an electronic flavour !

It seems as everything in this song sounds as it should sound and the
only real comments would be based on personal taste as you can
only grab your Vibe through your music and groove along.

Yeah, I know they are no guitars, I meant that they do as the guitars here. Sound great :).

nice song, the drums are a little weak but i guess they are supposed to be in metal :) i love some of the chord progressions though, it’s beautiful actually :D

Hey thanks everyone… This is encouraging feedback for a song I thought was a bit of a throwaway… Hey but you get that with artists seeing their songs completely differently to how an audience hears it. I listen to this and hear “no vocals you lazy fool”… hehehe but that’s just me.

dj io: Weak drums? You must mean the mix? The drums are pounding, but I guess they get buried under all that synth sludge and scrape.

BotB, I downloaded ‘Destructive Poetry’ and I like. You certainly have some nasty hob-goblins your system too! Graaaahahahaha!!! Yeeeoaawlll!!!

Music to drown kittens by… no I don’t mean that.

very good work, Foo?!

I see you’ve put more effort into drums, which was your past weakest point.

let me headbang again! :yeah: ;)

Very good stuff indeed! I´m very impressed!

Why don’t you put it up on the song page, or is it allready there?

The only thing letting this song down from being almost perfect is that the sound of the drums, they sounds to a bit to short and to tiny, I don’t think that snare does this song justice and the bass drum should have more bass to it…

Oh sure, totally agree re: drums. The bad point about their EQ is that they are all in the one channel, so it was virtually impossible to cater for all the different drum sounds with one EQ pass. Everything I’ve written since has used 4-5 channels for drums, each sonic area having it’s own treatment. But as I said before I lost the original rns :( - it may also be that you find the ns_kit is not quite the one for your ears in this genre. It’s the best one I’ve got for the moment.

Thanks Mr. Alien :) We’ve been listening to a lot of you as well ;) Stuff like Rationally Irrational has me going “gee I better try and go after that sound with a tracker”, hehe. Your three-step fills are incredible and I’ve figured out how to do them recently: use a 12-line structure for 4/4. ?Usual divisors are on 6s, but fills sound great if you use 4s and 2s and 1s, per a base-12 structure. This song doesn’t use it tho…

Song page??.. myes!

yeah, F10C rulez :yeah: :)

as I wrote yeeeeears ago (1999, probably) on a tracking article, the 12 lines is the best choice because it lets you divide tempo by 2,3,4, 6, and easily multiply it by 2, 3.

Actually, I mostly use 4 or 8 ticks per line, switching to 12 locally when needed.

Too bad you lost the RNS… got remake it better! :)

Ahh… icic…

But then how do you keep the same bpm when switching betten 4/8 to 12? I guess you’d figure out the ratios from 8 to 12 and visa versa. To know how to do that would be good because there are some fills that you can’t do in 12, like 16ths-fills.

I guess I could download some of your old XMs (btw, remember ‘Some Thoughts’?) and figure it out for myself. I think I’ve eloved to the stage of needing both line structures… Should have been doing 12 ages ago…

edit: derr… is this what you mean by F10C…??? Forgive my stupid.

edit2: But if your using 12 lines, how to you easily step back to 8 lines to capture those 16th fills? In drumming you just DO IT, but getting it into a step sequencer is quite tricky!

most of times, I just change speed and BPM accordingly, i.e.: if I have to switch from speed 12 to speed 8, I set BPM to 8/12=2/3 of the previous value.

Anyway, making odd tempoes in trackers at even speeds is still possible, using note delays.

Suppose you want to make a triplet at speed 8. In 3 lines, you will have 24 ticks, so you can use D3 and/or E3 commands in order to put the notes all over the right measures.

heh…

PS: F10C sets speed to 12. Maybe this is not what you meant, but I write it anyway.

Nice lot of energy to this song Foo!

Like the intro a lot, grabs your attention.

My favourite sequence in this track is at the last minute, nice atmosphere and good chord sequence. Nice balance to the high energy of the rest of the track.

Would agree with the others about the drums being mixed in too weakly but as you mentioned you unfortunately lost the rns.

Keep it up mate!
