Here’s an uncategorized song that I’ve been working on–7/4 timing and strange progressions. I have the scratch vocals done and hopefully within a week or two I’ll have finalized vocals for it. Warning–there are some pitchy moments in my vocals in this current recording. I’m really looking forward to getting this one done–I feel it’s one of my most interesting.

Reminds me of early Genesis, though your voice is closer to… hmm… maybe George Micheal?
I suggest you to try to put instruments a bit in the foreground, since the voice is a bit too loud in my opinion.
Some little synth phrases in between the vocal sections would make it even better

i’m also not very good at listening to lyrics or interpereting what they mean but it sounds like you are talking about some really personal stuff, i really admire your balls-out stance here… you seem like a really profound person. yet the lyrics are intelligent

There’s at least one section that I had thought about adding something for a little while now but was teeter-tottering on the decision, and after hearing what you have said I’m going to add a little solo at 1:52 to 2:14 instead of it just being the background progression and background vocal layers. I think it will give it will be a great improvement.
Also, the main vocals are definately waaay to loud. I knew they were a little loud, but I didn’t realize how much until I really did some tests (When turning the volume almost all the way down, what is heard? My vocals. Waay too loud)–that will definately be an imrovement, besides entirely new main vocal takes that aren’t pitchy and have more energy and soul–the current vocals were quickly thrown together as a reference.

Yearh try compare this song with the sixth part of Genesis’ “Supper’s Ready” called “Apocalypse in 9/8 (co-starring the delicious talents of Gabble Ratchet)” (featured on the brilliant albums “Foxtrot” and “Seconds Out”) and we’ll all see we have a long way to go.
I like really like the song… but not the singing. I would really like to hear an instrumental version of this one. There’s definitely some beautiful moments in there and the background chorus is really good.
More (of the same!) atmosphere and less storytelling!

Your voice is great, even though there are some parts (around 4 mins, both that part it goes out of and the part it moves into) that weren’t spot on.

Man, that is a trip that you mention that song–Gothic 17–it is in my top 10 favorite songs of all time. I think Bruford is genius–absolute genius. It is an honor to be put in even a remotely same category as Bruford. Thank you so much!!!

edit: I had to say, as well, that when I made this song, making something that tries to emulate some of the complexity and some of the feeling (but not copying anything from it) that was in Gothic 17 was my goal–I never thought I’d get anywhere close to it. The fact that someone who I don’t know personally picked Gothic 17 out of the song is just f*ckin’ amazing! You have no idea how happy this makes me. I’m all choked up! My best friends who I introduced Bruford’s early solo work to said this song reminded them of Gothic 17, but I thought they were just being nice. Damn, I’m all choked up! Where’s the happy crying emoticon when you need it?
Weird. 
But it really is there.
Harmonic content is reminiscent (even if Gothic 17 is a bit more violent sounding as a whole), and the lyrics are too, with a person who sees or reflects on something dark/clouded, and expells tension and there’s pull-push type dynamic between that and being calm, apathetic or whatever I’m supposed to call it. Probably sounds bad, but that’s my guess as to why they’re reminded of it.
I like this. This has to be my favourite out of the suff I’ve heard from you, Kizzume.
It gives me a strange image of driving in the rain in the 80’s. Interpret that how you will, but I see it as a compliment. It’s highly nostalgic, and tuneful in a contemplative way. It would be melancholc but your vocals give it a brighter, warmer tinge.
By the way, I don’t even drive. I don’t know where that image came from. I guess the 80’s part has somthing to do with the synths you used, which are good.
The past couple of years has driven me more towards embracing the 80’s sound rather than trying to run away from it. Until after '02 I might have been mortified about hearing that my music reminds them of the 80’s–I was so prejudiced against the 80’s even though most of my music has always had an 80’s flare.
