► 2.8.1 Beta Builds (Now Final)

Hey all,

we’ve prepared a small 2.8 update, Renoise 2.8.1, which clears all pending bugs and also adds a small feature for the new pattern matrix aliases in 2.8.

To test the fixes, this update is for now not officially available on www.renoise.com, but only linked here. If everything’s fine with the builds we’ll release them next week “officially”.

What’s fixed

  • mainly a bunch of fixes for the LUA API
  • a few things concerning the Pattern Matrix aliases in 2.8
  • The 32bit version did not show properly on the new retina displays on OSX

Please have a look at the “Pending Bug Fixes” forum for the complete list.

What’s new

Although it’s a bugfix update, one small feature alike thing managed to slip into this release:

  • when editing/changing contents in patterns which are aliased in the Pattern Matrix, the aliases and slot borders will flash from/to red, so you see that the edit actually affects multiple patterns and not just one

You will not see 2.8.1 on the regular backstage pages, but can only access them via this link until we’ve officially published it. now officially published.

Found a problem in 2.8.1?

Then post them here in this thread please. Thanks for helping us to test the update!

This update is of course not everything we’ve done the past weeks. Actually have been pretty busy with a new release. But sorry, as usual I can’t give any more details except that we are on something ;)

Whoa! Awesome surprise :D Already fetching the OSX version.

And yes, I’m very curious about the other secret work you guys have been up to :w00t:

Cool. Download complete.

/lazymode

I’ll fetch this later

since I already played with 2.81 alpha from the very first day, I am eagerly looking forward to get my hands on this 2.82!

exciting! =D

Hmmm… Nice.

cool

I feel the speculation itch kicking in again… aa.

That’s a Swee-eeet effect BTW! Works really well.

^_^

I am experiencing Renoise crashing down every single time i try to install a tool.
At first i thought it was because one of my own tools was the culprit…
but here i simply drag and drop Rubberband onto Renoise and poof, renoise vanishes. No logdetails, no errormessages, no nothing…

Attachment 3513 not found.

I have zipped my complete 2.8.1 user environment (excluiding the backup songs) and posted it online…
pm me for the link if you need it, i suspect this cannot be reproduced without the user preferences.

I have a lot of random crashes in renoise 2.8.1. ,thing is ,renoise is not warning or anything ,it is mostly windows saying faulty exe ( 0x4eb974b2) …renoise needs to shut down …luckily no bsod …just ending renoise .
The crashes also occured in 2.8.0. but no so frequently
here is the windows log

I am using an old dinosaur amd 64 …1gig ram …really stable …no internet
Really frustrating .
First I thought It could be because I am also running wavosaur at the same time ( using a separate pair of drivers )
but the crash also happens when renoise is the only active program
It’s driving me crazy , not doing anything cpu heavy , just playing some sampled instrument , not loading any vst or anything , then out of the blue …windows shuts down renoise
I can’t seem to find any info about the crash in the (renoise) log file, last crash occured at 16:03( from windows log )
At the time of writing another crash occured …yay :)

here’s the ren .log file
https://www.box.com/…f2571b309132a0d

dev’s could you have a look at the log please ?

thanks

Could you please try if the same happens without your custom installer tool tool?
If it causes this crash, could you please also give us access to it?

Did you probably started using a new VST plugin lately?
“vst plugins\ASynth.dll” seems to be used in all cases where Renoise disappeared. Is this a new plugin or an updated one?

Else it’s very hard to find out what exactly caused the problem, but that Renoise just disappears is usually a hint that something’s going wrong with plugins (which doesn’t mean it’s necessary a plugins fault).

Any more info you can think of may be helpful. Maybe releaoding some of the songs again and again does at some time cause a crash and thus could be used to replicate the problem?

Thanks for having a look taktik , the reason why’ asynt’h is visible in the log file is because it is part of the template song …asynth is as stable as can get .( by antii huovillain for smartelectronix …released in 2005 …really really stable )
I was hoping you could give a bit more information about the win .log …I tried googling the error message but couldn’t find any relevant information .
Most frustrating is that I can’t replicate the crash …renoise sometimes quits when I switch to another window ( win.explorer )
I think it has something to do with background processes …donno …
Recently installed some demo’s by psp ( oldtimer , buspressor ) , being uninstalled now …still crashing …driving me nuts
Also , can you see the crashes in the renoise log ???Is theer any hiden data /lines that we can’t see ?
Cause I can’t see any info about the crashes in the renoise log .
thanks

why not try a fresh installation.
than check if its still crashing. add everything you need one after another, while testing after every each option/plugin/script/song.
that way its easier to minimize all the possible reasons.

Yay, that’s the problem. It doesn’t log anything. Could you please install 2.8.0 again and use it for a while with the same set of plugins? So we know if it’s a problem in 2.8.1 or something else.

[s]I’ve noticed something strange in Lua in 2.8.1 (I haven’t tried others yet)

renoise.song().selected_note_column points to a renoise.notecolumn reference when on a note column (and doesn’t when not, which is correct).

However, it always appears to be an empty reference?

For example, if I have some notes on track 1 (note column 1) with the cursor on some notes in that column (on the pitch):

  • renoise.song().selected_note_column:clear() doesn’t do anything and
  • renoise.song().selected_note_column.is_empty returns true

[/s]

I’ve worked it out, I was expecting note columns to be a list of lines, but it’s the other way around (lines are lists of note columns).

I crashed 2.8.1, unfortunately, I don’t know how (I was just writing code in the lua editor and testing it).
