the "Distribute" button can save lot of time but definitely needs a dialog which sets the start and end point of the distribution, instead of only being able to spread the samples acrosse the whole keyboard range

I totally agree - and it would also be nice if you could also distribute velocity layers from a selection of samples mapped to a key or keys based on file name, with option for ascending/descending and perhaps according to velocity curves. Building velocity layers is a bit of a chore at the moment, especially for large sample sets with many velocity layers.
