OK, here’s my little guide to all of you who searches for Good Quality Free VST Instruments. This is my results after testing ALL the VST’s at http://www.kvr-vst.com … I think this is the site that contains every single decent VST which are avaiable on the Internet. Just inform me, if there are other sites which could be nice to know about. I dont know how many hours I’ve spent on this, but it is A LOT, and I want to share this information. But be aware of that this is just a personal test and you might not agree with me in everything here, but overall I think this is pretty accurate. Feel free to discuss and/or inform me in return, for instance, of some VST’s that I’ve totally forgot about and/or any VST instruments that are totally out of place here.

All the Headlines are written in big font. All the Instruments are written in blue color (and alphabetical order). All Developers are written in default color, like this;

Developer - Instrument

VST DEMOS …

I RECOMMEND TO READ THE LICENCES / DISTRIBUTION - THINGS, ETC. SOME OF THEM SAYS THAT YOU MUST ORDER AFTER 30 DAYS AND THINGS LIKE THAT, EVEN THOUGH THE DEMOS ARE STILL FULLY WORKING. TO PREVENT MYSELF TO GET IN TROUBLE I MUST INFORM THAT, SO DONT COME BACK AND SAY, WHEN YOU ARE CAUGHT: “YOU SAID IT WAS FREE!” :D

… That are fully functional Demos, and seems to not contain any restrictions!

All the rest…

There were a lot of VST’s that weren’t useful of various reasons;

  • Many of the Demos contained very nice sounds, but because they were Demos ( or in my way to express it; ‘Demons’ ;) ) of the bad type - they emited disturbing sounds, noises, became silent after 20 seconds, or things like that and therefore are useless, unless you want to buy them.

  • The VST’s were just bad, terrible or just not enough satisfying for my taste ( and I wasn’t that harsh ;) )

  • The VST’s didn’t worked for me/couldn’t download them (of unknown reasons.)

  • Everything are tested on a Windows XP system and in the musicprogram Renoise, so there were a few (not many at all actually) which only supported other systems like MAC and/or couldn’t start them in Renoise, etc…

To download all this, just go to the site:
http://www.kvr-vst.com/
And choose from the “Quick Instrument Links”

I hope all this work has paid of in a nice New Year gift for some of you at least… If not, I could easily say it was for myself. ;)

Does someone has any reccomendations for free atmosphere / ambient soundscapes. I was looking for spectrasonic atmosphere, but it’s a little to expensive.

I have some good vsti’s, but cant really find a real ambient orientated one with mostly effects or other rare and odd material. Hope some off you guys know one.

I got some huge soundfont bank here:
http://www.titanicsf.com/download/download.html (99MB zipped, 220 MB uncompressed)

Details about the SFb in this manual:

Should be enough.

I found another link page, has some of the vst plugins mentioned here and some other:

Ok, anyone using Synth1 VST ? I am looking for a Bank/Patch that contains presets named “Ambient voice”, “Female voice”, “Male voice” or something like that… I could find it on the www.kvr-vst.com page before, but after downloading all the ones that I could download I am not able to find those presets anymore??

My samples

When you find free samples online, you usually got to double check if they’re free for commercial use. Mine is though :w00t:

http://samples.ni2.se

There are two .wav samplepacks, and two soundfonts. I doubt renoise reads soundfonts, so you might have to use a VSTi sampler that does (all soundfont players aren’t accurate enough for my soundfonts, but I know that VSampler reads them 100% correctly).
