3 Master Outs

Hi, i wonder what you guys think. In terms of mastering and mixing, it would be quite unique to have overall 3 master outputs:

MstMix = 2ChannelLR - Mono+Stereo mixed Master out (as it already exists)

MstMono = 1Channel - Mono Master out (identical waveform on Left+Right channel)

MstStereo = 2ChannelLR Stereo Master out, this is the stereo sum only
(Left Channel = subtract MstMix Left Channel from MstMono,
(Right Channel = subtract MstMix Right Channel from MstMono)

In normal case, MstMono and MstStereo would be muted by default. If you switch MstMono on while MstMix is switched on it would distory because you add the Monochannel twice - you’d get the idea…

Also, this would be amazing, simply mute MstMix and MstMono and listen to the MstStereo, adjust effects the effects in the track and hear the results in realtime. It would help alot for mixing/mastering and composing (although there are two different tasks) combined in one program.

If you are not fimilar with MS Encoding, take your favourite record and encode it to Mono/Stereo signal, you’ll be amazed how much you can learn of how professionals do their mixing - at least - I WAS

Actually there is a slighty, tiny problem, i think its impossible to calculate the mono track back from a stereo signal ;) Example:

Left Channel value: 5
Center (mono) value 3
Right Channel Value: 10

So, after the mono value has been encoded (added) into the Stereo signal the results are:
Left Channel value: 8 (5 + 3 Mono)
Right Channel Value: 13 (10 + 3Mono)

So, how do you get the value 3 back of the mono track back after it has been encoded (added) to the left and right channel? it’s simply gone. anyway, it was a nice thought though.

any other ideas just to hear the stereo sum without the center while keeping it stereo and not just the difference between channels?

Well, you have free plugins that do stuff like that. For example Voxengo’s MSED.

But a mono button on the master would be very welcome, indeed, as it’s already been suggested.

What I’d really like, that would kinda go along with this, is the ability to have a stereo DSP chain for every channel, which you could apply effects to right and left channels separately.
