A Better Way For Renoise Songs To Go Noticed?

Do we need a better way for quality (i.e. non-demo) renoise music to go noticed? It seems that within our little world there’s the song section or the forum posts. Sure, we have compos occasionally, or things like Remixta, but I can’t help but feel that some really good stuff just slips between the cracks.

Any ideas?

I’m sure there’s still a lot of good stuff out there that we don’t know about yet. ;)
But wich people should notice more in your opinion?
Renoisers, Producers who don’t use Renoise, Tha big public?

If you meen that it should be easyer for Renoisers to make their songs public, I would suggest a tool in Renoise that says “Render to Renoise.com
In the standart preferences you enter your artist name and other personal stuff.
And the song would go directly to (for example) Renoise.com/songs
There you can stream (not everybody want to make their songs downloadable offcourse) the latest tracks that are uploaded.

Offcourse some kind of comment board after every song.

I’m sure I would use it to get feedback and use it to check out other people stuff. :walkman:

But I’m also sure it’s a pretty big new feature that will eat some serverspace from the renoise server.
so… perhaps every song stays online for a week?

Perhaps a renoise-hosted twice-a-year downloadable compilation album…?

This sounds like the job of promotional/advertising methods, though I’m not in that industry.

Try building ideas from abstract to concrete, and if suitable, mix and match ideas according to the senses.
• Sight
• Sound
• Smell
• Taste
• Touch
• Other Senses (you know, stuff con artists, magicians, and aspiring world conquerors have developed)

Then the linear and sometimes non-linear (e.g. new ideas) reality of executing them.

Gathering an audience and getting them motivated enough to give Renoise music a home in their bookmarks or whatever… part of their lives, like checking your e-mail or watering your plants.

Personally I find new music by watching something like a commercial, movie, web videos, installations, etc.

Hmmm… a Renoise Youtube account…?

Yeah, I’m surprised there isn’t an official account, though I can imagine a few reasons as to why there isn’t one.

Speaking of Youtube, it certainly has dedicated viewers. There’s more than enough room for community effort and creativity in terms of how the music is translated and presented. I suppose you could corner all the Youtube categories or do a bit of category bleed-throughs to gather audiences who are miles apart both figurative and literal.

I personally enjoy finding new music to my ears (maybe old music to some) in way of the surprise factor. Something unexpected with just a hint of curiosity as to what music people marry to certain visuals or category. Then I look forward to recurring enjoyment patterns of subscriptions.

As in real life, a great way to put some momentum behind your musical project is to play live. that being said, i have no idea how such an idea would work in this situation.

maybe collaborative jamming over the internet?

best (and least feasible) of all would be an in person show.

is the goal primarily to promote renoise or renoise music?

in any case i think an “event” type activity (with a “show up or miss out” aspect) would be effective.

Maybe you want to use Portals like SoundCloud (www.soundcloud.com), which is one of the places to present your own music to quite a big crowd of people.

Depending on the amount of time you want to invest in this community I’m sure you can get quite far there.

On the other hand I’d say that contacts are key for starting a career… no matter which “industry”.

Soundcloud is a fantastic portal, as mentioned above.

I use Renoise for all my productions, and the abilty to embed your tracks across different mediums and get direct commenting is very useful.

EDIT : And there is a group on there directly for Renoise made tracks.

Soundcloud! Another place to add one another! :D

From Renoise’s point of view, it’d be logical to point out physical releases made with Renoise. As if to say: listen to this, it’s awesome and it relies solely on teh hex! Ofcourse there’s tons of awesome music not being physically released, but I’m also thinking it’s the artist’s responsibility to promote his/her music. If Renoise wishes to promote the tracks not being pumped into the planet by mass media, I guess it needs to be more active and extravert on various community sites, forums and perhaps also the ‘real world’.

Maybe a Renoise CD? It costs only a few thousand euros… :P

I’m a tad confused about this topic… This is not a question of how to get good music noticed, but a question how to get good Renoise music noticed? At the same expense one could ask how to get good FL Studio or MPT music noticed. I don’t see the point. Or do we just want to get Renoise noticed in general?

Somehow it seems a bit funny to underline the software when talking about good music.

Good music gets noticed when promoted properly, preferably through a label/company that has contacts and the desire to shoot your music up the sky. Or if you’ve got yourself contacts already, use them. And if you want to point out that it was all made with Renoise, do so. But “good Renoise music”… It’s starting to sound a bit elitistic in some manners to me.

“Look how good music you can make with Renoise!” “Oh yeah? Well look at this FL Studio track, how good is that!”

And to make things sure: no offense whatsoever. I love Renoise and I hope more people would take the time to try and buy it but I don’t want to categorize the music as Renoise music.

This just in: Timbaland uses Renoise to make beats!

Oh, and if you want the Renoise format to be noticed then it’s a whole another thing and can’t give any pointers in that. Too bad my filesizes are enormous and the desire to use VST is everlasting.

Good point(s), Dfast…

How about Renoise Weekly Top 5 Tracks picked by various Admin.
And as time rolls on, an entire section of archived favourites including
“ALL TIME BEST”
This could already exist with the information on the song forum,
“most downloaded” and the ratings…etc
:guitar:

Never mind me gents. Disregard my post. I’m just a sad old sod…

No, I’d say Suva’s Remixta podcasts are a great example of what this is about. A much better listening experience than having a playlist of individual tracks (or even xrns files for that matter).

Foo?, you’re right to point out that, since this forum often sees many
great music come and go, we (the Renoise USERS perhaps, rather than
the renoise DEVELOPERS) need to think about ways to promote that.
What we have in common is our love for that music, and the software
we use and thus (perhaps?) our approach to producing.

Although I think artists are responsible for their own promotion, there is
no hurt at all in helping eachother with that. One of the options could be
to use what we have in common as a ‘means’ of promoting eachother.
So I DO mind :P What we could be discussing here is HOW we can help
eachother ‘network’.

In my opinion, the services you provide Foo?, is a great example already:
mastering sessions INSIDE Renoise, how killa! Same goes for Suva’s Remixta,
like many already pointed out.

It’s not about promoting the software here then, I think, but its products. Just
because WE made it, WE believe in it and we just happen to have the Way of
the Hex in common. So! Our own Netlabel, Podcast, Facebook Group, Soundcloud,
Myspace, Whatnot, except instead of constantly referring to Renoise, we’d refer
to what it’s about: the music we love.

The counter got stuck on 303 views…
There is a hint-remark that says it gets so many views the counter is not being updated anymore and i should check again in a few hours…
That was a few days ago that i saw that remark for the first time…
Perhaps i don’t want to know the real figure that it should represent at current…
Or YouTube folks turned it off so they don’t have to pay too much royalties which is actually fraud with figures, which is my suspicion.
Should i write Sony Music? :P

OH OH OH I KNOW!!!
HOW ABOUT… if artists WANT their music heard more… they SPAM MOAR!!!

I don’t understand what makes “Renoise songs” special. I know we’re all proud of the software we use, but honestly this is like going out there trying to sell “Guitar songs”. It’s an instrument, what comes out of it is sort of irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

Also, it strikes me as a little bit desperate. I know we want to sell how rad our chosen platform is, but you don’t see “Ableton songs” or whatever. It’s just music.

What would be nice however would be if established artists granted Renoise.com some quotes/recommendations for them to slap in a box on the front page. Perhaps even some interviews for in-depth.

Because, y’know, i’m assuming we want to sell more Renoise copies, not our own songs. We already have plenty channels for that :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Wow, finally a sane voice! I don’t get it either. Good music is good music. I don’t care if it’s made in Renoise, Abletron, Soundfridge or whatever: it’s just a tool. One better promotes Renoise, not “its” music whatever that may be.
