A Song That Came Up All Of A Sudden

Probably the most happy NON-over-the-top song I’ve written. It sounds like some sort of adult contemporary ballad from the 80’s or something.

The vocals are in total scratch form–there are no real words for this yet, so lyrically some of the phrases I say are cheesey.

It suddenly came up today–wrote and produced in about an hour and a half.

That sounds right on the money :) I was waiting for Patti LaBelle to do the backup vocals…

That said, it sounds a bit mono to me (as in absolutely no placing of instruments in the stereo image) but maybe that on purpose too

Twin Peaks meets Cyndi Lauper’s True Colours. It’s smooth and delightful to listen to, but maybe now is a good chance to go crazy with some distorition? :)

…edt… Woa… I love the choral stuff at the end… especially the low notes! More low notes please!

whoah! nice vocal work mate!

all fits together beautifully…what more can i say…

Slap a few more of this level of quality on a demo and you’re sure to turn a few heads. keep it up!

Wow. I wasn’t expecting that response. Thanks. I was actually expecting people to say “Oh that’s so cheesey, who do you think you are?” or something to that degree. Just, wow. :D

I was more worried about showing this song than any I’ve ever made–I get really paranoid about possibly sounding like I’m trying to copy artists or styles of artists, so I usually tend to stay away from straightforward melodies and chords. I’m glad I didn’t in this case, and I’ll probably mess with some more straightforward songs in the future.

It’s one of the few songs that started with the vocal parts–usually I write the bassline first, then the drums, then the chords, then I make the vocals. I’ve got about 4 songs possibly up my sleeve that I’ve started with vocals first. This should be interesting.

Thanks again :)

This is indeed a high quality track, very nice vocals and 80s mood. The first 2 seconds remind me of an old song, but i can’t remember the title. You shouldn’t worry anymore, to post songs as good as this. :)

Wow–I had some settings wrong on Cubase and the whole thing was mono. Oops :) :)

Thanks for pointing that out l-rs.

It’s fixed now. Now I just need to finish the words–they’re half done now, and a new recording with real words should be coming up in the next few days.

Just go to the same link as before–it has been updated.

I really liked your last song, this song is very good as well! And I said you reminded me of Tears for Fears in my last post, this made me think of Woman in Chains (though without the female vocal).

Finish this song. I think you should seriously consider coming up with an album.

Great job.

Well, yours is the first demo I’ve listened to on the demos forum, and it’s very impressive! Very professional sounding (it could have been straight off a top 40 album), and I love the keyboards that come in at 1:05, and yes, you do have a very good voice! And it’s also very memorable- after only hearing the first two minutes I was singing harmonies along with it, after my internet connection decided to cut out!
You really have talent. Let’s hear more!!!

Man, I am really struggling with the lyrics for this one. I’m so used to writing dark lyrics and this song is not dark at all. Everything I seem to come up with sounds cheesey to me. This is going to take a lot longer than I thought. I really want to get this one on my demo.

Choosing 3 songs for my demo has been really difficult. I suppose I should choose a different 3 songs for each station I send the demo to, but even then, it’s still difficult.

I’m thinking this one, Come On, and Walk of Fate, but then Someday really stands out as well. Ugh–ugh! It’ll all fall into place eventually…
