Just thought about this for a second. A much more useful implementation would be as follows:
Right Channel:
Volume: +40db Inverted <-> -INFdb <-> +40dB Normal
Output panning: Left <-> Right
Left Channel:
Volume: +40db Inverted <-> -INFdb <-> +40dB Normal
Output panning: Left <-> Right
This way, the panning situation is fixed because you can independently control the panning and volume of each channel, and have absolute control over the output. Also, the volume sliders will have no volume in the center, invert the volume to the left, and turn it up normally to the right. This eliminates the need for the current invert buttons, and allows you to do nifty stuff like phase modulation LFO and such. Perhaps this could be an advanced gain device, and we could keep the current gain implementation?
