AE: above Content mask: Selection in Matrix

Hello,

to make the overall difference, I really would like a “Selection in Matrix” above the Content mask in the Advanced Editor.

{update: an image - 2017-01-09} * image was gone (2019-06-07)

selection-in-matrix-mask

this would allow me to select certain blocks in the Matrix, and apply certain Advanced Editing functions on them.

e.g. -10h volume on track 2 to track 5 in pattern 03 to pattern 06

by selecting that block in the Matrix and selecting “Selection in Matrix”, then Content Mask “Volume” only and section Vol/Pan/Delay/FX “Modify: Sub 10h” and Apply

/me really wants this feature

/bump

does anybody else want this feature? i really would love it to increase the overall editing ease.

+9999 bump

Absolutely!

I think this is a no-brainer. Often miss it too.

Although, in your screenshot I’m not so sure about glow-in-the-dark Comic Sans lettering. I would probably go for something more traditional…

Yes, everybody wants this. Also would be nice if it then could handle track pattern boundaries for adv. tools.

I think the development started when they started to use the actual font in my image…

Track boundaries? Can you explain? You can already split a pattern… anyway nevermind, I guess you mean multiple track operations by selection of the Selection in Matrix on multiple tracks…

Sorry, I actually meant “taking care of pattern boundaries”, this requires additional code logic due the internal pattern structure. For example, the current adv. operations simply will cutoff notes if you move it over the pattern boundary, or if there is a note in the very last line with delay 7F and you quantize it, it will stay in the last line, but should be moved to the next pattern.

For a selection in matrix, it should be mandatory that the operation can “overlap” pattern boundaries. So there should be also some logic taking care of the actual pattern sequence, e.g. like:

  • If the next pattern has the same number as the current or is not a unique number (the pattern is used more than once in the sequence), do not apply boundary operations

  • If the next pattern has an unique pattern number, do apply boundary operation

I concur that.

either

loop through all matrix blocks

… if (selected) that matrix block

… … apply adv. operation

… }

}

or

loop through a collection of selected blocks in matrix

… apply adv. operation

}

it is simply an extension of the: Track in pattern

Eh? So if you quantize, you really want to manually fix all the patterns’ boundaries by hand? Fixing the last line? Or re-insert disappeared notes?

:badteeth:

It needs such additional logic, too. Only for unique patterns. What I write is totally logical. Just think about it.

It is an extension of multiple “apply to track in pattern” + boundary management.

No, I don’t. I’m going to ignore you now, because you have a completely legitimate statement. And logic applies, so you are right. Thank you for getting in to this detail. You’re banned too.

if you’re going to edit your qouted text, I’m going to edit my reply and say you’re not ignored.

+1 for the color and font-change…

I mean the feature-suggestion! :wink:

Yah I want this too. I’m surprised every time I try it and it’s not there.

awwww my image is gone… * I added a new one

still I consider this my most important feature request

Selection in Matrix

mask

OK.

My Renault Renoise 3.3 needs Selection in Matrix.
