Antape & Vagina Dentata - Beheaded Pigeon Rip

http://soundcloud.com/antape/beheaded-pigeon-rip

This is a collaboration between me as Antape and the punk hardcore band in which I play. The electronic parts are rather light on the Vagina Dentata’s songs, and this one was an occasion to really mix the two genres, no matter how it could be labelled. And it’s actually quite hard to label, I really don’t know if you guys will love it, but i think it has a certain originality which I’d like to share.

Also, all the electronic drums are performed on Renoise.

Enjoy !

post scriptum : the middle parts features a french accent that at least will make you laugh ^_^

The way the guitar comes in after “my pigeon friend is beheaded” made me laugh :D
Is that normal?

nice to hear your track after helping you with your English text. i actually really liked it. i liked the part before the text more than after, but that is simply me not caring too much for punk/hardcore music. still, i think it is a nice fusion of genres you guys have there, and worth further exploring if you ask me.
also, i think a French accent on English lyrics sounds pretty cool. do you know the group ‘Noze’? they do that stuff all the time, it cracks me up but it sounds fantastic.

Well that precise moment makes me laugh every time I hear it as well. The guitars come with a kind of out of purpose bad taste that goes well IMO with the story.

Cool you heard it, and thanks for your appreciation. Like you, I’m not much (ok, to be honest I’m not at all) into punk or hardcore music but I like when different genres goes together like that. For example I love Mr Bungle because they’ve melted a lot of different styles together with a lot of humour and that’s a very positive way to make music. So much clever than thinking music in terms of genres hermetical to each other.

Just A Souvenir is also a good example for that I think.

I don’t know the group Noze but I’m gonna check it, sounds interesting.

I love it!

Nice song, the text is superb.
About mixing genres. I like Mr Bungle too, but I like when the mix is not to obvious (here the funk part, here the punk, now the lounge chorus. etc) “My ass in on fire” is good example, great song. Red Hot Chili Peppers are a good example too, they got punk, funk, rock & pop in their own style.

this is pretty cool. :)

had a good time listening to this!

Great guitar afet break, powaaa ;)

Funny to read that right now, I’m just listening to Mother’s Milk. I agree with you, but I miss the music they did first because what they do now sounds like making money (and making teenage girls cry).

Also, I don’t know if we’ll make some other songs like that but it would be great that the different genres goes in a more melted way. I’d like to go further with the side-chained distorted kick on the punk :D

Very nice! :walkman:

I’m not a big fan of punk or whatever either, but I frickin’ love this song!!

This is amazing! Very fresh, really well produced, and tells a story in both words and sound.

Do dig deeper, this is definitely a mix of styles worth exploring. ;)

im liking this!!!
