Haha , the difference between a jazz musician is that we are rigorous in theory and practice out scales, all 51 of them in all keys and all positions as out daily routine. Still when we play we have to be original in our lines, so while we play fast and slow it’s the lyrical melody aspect of our lines that give us the edge.
A blues musician has mostly 2 scales and in blues it’s far easy to say the same thing over and over again without saying anything new and there is a difference between saying less or playing less because you are saying something, or saying less because you know less.

IMO what it is is that Vic is equating being able to recite Mark Twain quotes (from Google) or the opening paragraph of ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ as a measurement that he is now ‘gifited’. To me you can have a good memory (which Vic probably has) but the more true test is being able touse the knowledge you have to form art/science. You can recite a lot of established equations in mathematics, but that doesn’t make you a genius at understanding and being able to apply mathematics in any context for example. John von Neumann could recite most of ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ verbatim, but he could also write complex papers formulating new ideas in math. If Vic truly demonstrated say his Jazz ability, and in our opinion it was very good, then yes, I’d say fair enough Vic, you can post as much walls of text as you like. I’d could actually approach Vic and say, yeah love pattern number 4 in that xrns you did. But as it stands at the moment, nothing. Talk is cheap. Core ones and their modes, some esoteric ones, assymetrical scales, oriental and Indian scales that are of interest or popular use. I try to limit scales precisely becos they are too many. Pat Martino uses his technique of minor modes for a majority of his improvs. Simplified thinking is required when results are what you desire. Joe Pass sees all harmony as Maj Min and Dominant, sees all altered chords and scales as embellishments to the core. Some scales are used by Middle age composers like Hildegard Bingen who use that 7th mode of the Lydian Scale in some of her songs for instance.

In an instance, in a class of English speaking colleagues both here and from my experience in Amsterdam, my skills are rather evident so what happens is that they will ask me to speak slowly or simply or louder etc…mostly just to break my flow. I blaze ahead only stopping for genuine queries, and that leaves them miserable becos they can’t stop me…certainly not from changing my accent (my American/British accent as opposed to the ‘expected’ Indian or Asian or even European for that matter) or my choice of longer sophisticated words or my sentence construction or composition… The thing is my talent in my life is not about my skills or anything like that…it’s that my a** had been had till date and that says something about my people handling ability…so unless you are an expert in Asian/global a**holism or have something unique to share from your world travels and can show me your ‘published PhD thesis’ I don’t care to listen…why am I writing, becos it helps me practice typing fast and mostly becos I like Renoise…some excellent folks here and the rest really don’t matter bro…don’t understand why you trying so hard…it’s takes a simple test whether someone is looking to learn or share something by engaging or to interrupt something by engaging. Edit: just remember another ‘exemplary example’. I actually have many PhD folks in my own family circles and the residence where I live at. In my city it’s common for many educated folks to have. phD in something or the other. However when debating it’s clear if someone really the hard work behind it. You see when you go about doing your own PhD thesis in life for say 5 years, from their experience you can never ever ever defend your thesis by saying that so and so did ‘his’ research or try to pass your bulk of your document by plagiarizing their work. You have to show that your work is pretty much your own output from your own processing. Your bibliography does not matter, becos everyone has it just like you. Your brain however does matter. So even getting a PhD will be tough shit for such non debative folks becos the first thing you will say to yourself is that ‘John Neuman(as opposed to Alfred Newman or NewWoman)’ invented the computer architecture as we know it so why should we pursue our PhD in Reverse Engineering automation or similar topics. Unless you pontificate and process and generate output the bulk of your knowledge digesting ability, ciritical appreciation ability, comprehension ability and thinking ability will never be utilised. Btw no need to pursue a PhD , just saying from my own circles …the example…again it’s called Rhetoric and metaphor, not to be taken ‘literally’.
