I’m a novice Renoise user and am finding working with VSTi’s in Renoise a bit annoying… when compared to samples that is, I’m thinking of managing volume + effects which the effect coloumn just doesn’t allow.
What’s the best workflow when it comes to this?
At the moment I’m thinking ‘record to wav’ is a pretty darn good option. You’ll lose data in that process of course, so my next question would then be if there’s a nice way to quickly sample every nth note and put into an instrument?
Regarding specific volumes, i would advise you to use the volume column instead, effects applied in the effect column, apply to the whole row (regardless whether you work with samples or VSTI plugins).
Some of the effects available in the effect column can also be applied in the volume/panning column specific to the note. It does however depend whether the VSTI plugin supports these options yes/no and not all VSTI plugins are polytonal unfortunately.
Using the render to sample feature will resolve those issues for sure.
(It might also save you some CPU power if the VST plugin is CPU hungry)
If you like teaking stuff I would advise you to play with the automations. The good thing in vsti is that any knob can be automated, so just immagine how many things you can do
