I’m less impressed with breakcore than i am with the people who are capable of putting in the effort of producing it. Though it seems like an awful lot of effort for something that’s surpassed technically within weeks. Personally i get bored within moments of tinkering with it, even as i’m wowed by guys that really land it. In this sense i’m actually more in tune with drum&bass than breakcore, mostly because phrasing and drama are still somewhat of a facet of d&b.
My philosophy, if you can call it that, is that if i can’t make the track in an evening it’s not worth making. Every single song i’ve made with any pride were done in single sittings and were never touched after. I’ve done slicker things over time, but little that i felt had any reality to it.
Spending weeks or even months programming puts excessive emphasis on structure over content. Call me a traditionalist; I like remembering words, melodies and phrases, not just a general ambience of hostility.
Snares, Bogdan, Aaron Spectre etc, have all escaped this trap of relativity, and how? By doing other stuff in equal measure, and playing with the format.

Fuck moodiness, fuck elitism, there shouldn’t be a second song forum. You can always promote your music outside the community too, you know, like MOST OF THE WORLD OF MUSIC, so don’t knock down the people contributing here.
Even as someone who IS attempting to make breakcore, I have to agree with you. The thing that finally got me interested in electronic music at all was the “how the hell do they do that” factor I got from groups like ATR, Crystal Method, Orbital, and (I’ll admit it) Chemical Brothers. Since I’m a hard rock/punk fan at heart I gradually moved to the more aggressive stuff and finally landed on breakcore as my favorite electronic style.
Since I’m no musician (other than percussion training up through high school) I’m mainly still learning “how the hell to do that” with Renoise or whatever and I like the way I appreciate the music more the more I learn.

It doesn’t matter what music it is… if you set out to make [insert genre here], chances are it will end up sounding like shit. That’s just the nature of music. Few innovators… many followers. I’ll admit that I’m a follower of many genres, but with everything I do, I try to make it as unique as possible. I’m sure I fail miserably in most respects, but the fact is, I’m trying to carve my own way thought the ever-growing thick of like sounds.
I guess this is the thing:
Instead of trying to sound like the artists I love, I’m trying to discover exactly what makes me love those artists… so I can make my own sound representative of what I love about music, instead of mimicking personalities in music.
I hope this approach will make my music more personal and more meaningful than all the clone musicians out there.
However, I don’t think this is the point of the current rant session. Something makes me think that the problem isn’t with the clone musicians, but instead, with all the new artists using Renoise that decide to put a limited amount of time and effort into using it, then produce mediocre tracks, decide to label it breakcore because for some reason they think “breakcore” is just another word for “unskilled electronic music” or “random cacophony” … and frankly, I think this cycle is only perpetuated by threads like this. So keep it up, but if it’s really bothering you, keep in mind that by perpetuating negative stereotypes of the genre, you’re only making the situation worse.

REALITY: Some of us are bored here 'cause we’re killing time at work or wherever. So why not start a topic that may strike a few nerves? Heaven forbid that we don’t take a sacred cow seriously, goodness we couldn’t have that!!?!
REALITY PART 2: Most posted songs lack in quality, regardless of whatever the ‘genre’ is. Most people here are ‘cutting their teeth’ and getting the skills and confidence to take their craft to the next level (i.e. mastery that inspires and LASTS). At least grant me the right to call it like it is: that the songs are lacking. Wow, maybe even people might rise to the challenge and make better music, no?
Of course, let’s all cut to the chase here: lack of web development for renoise.com in better presenting songs and artists. Arguably this ISN’T renoise.com’s responsibility, and like Conner says, decent artists are out there promoting music to real audiences. Insert debate here as to what’s more important with community verses commercial conquest.

That sounds just like me but it’s always good to get feedback. Nothing I’ve written has been polished enough for me to call it breakcore though. That’s what the Experimental tag is for isn’t it? Something that hasn’t quite managed to fall into anything you can recognise but may hope some people will like it anyway. I would love to be able to write breackore, glitch, hardcore and glitch on demand but I just don’t have the skills. Taking such a long break from Renoise certainly hasn’t helped matters though!

this way if anyone really likes what you do, they just go through the thread.
you could either edit the first post to add new tunes, or post at the end of the thread, new tunes.

This reminds me of the Screamtracker/Impulse Tracker days. Everybody was writing fucking Techno/House/Dance crap constantly. I guess breakcore is the new plague?
I don’t even know what it is 0_o I couldn’t tell ya a breakcore song if I heard one. I like regular coherent music myself, like progressive rock style, or classical, jazz, metal that kinda shit. I usually avoid the hardcore genre’s because of that scar the big Techno phase left on me.(A big 666 beat into my forehead I think)
