Chord mode

Hi,
where is chord mode in pattern editor?

It’s now part of the instrument properties. Each instrument can be set to monophonic or polyphonic.

Does this make absolute sense in a tracker environment? Doesn’t one have to edit instrument to enable/disable chord mode every time it needs to be changed?

Instrument specific mono/poly/legato feels more like a synth setting for multiple simultaneous note behaviour.

Regardless of environment, I think it does make sense to have it on the instrument level.

Some sounds like basses and leads are usually intended to be played/recorded monophonically, while other sounds like piano are usually intended to be polyphonic.

Surely it’s a good thing that you can just set that behaviour once for the instrument itself, and then never have to worry too much about it again?

In previous versions of Renoise, you might be constantly flipping chord mode on and off to work with different sounds. Isn’t that a pain in the ass?

Setting this on the instrument level indeed makes sense. But it’s also still a bit ambiguous at the same time. I personally understood it as a way of setting the oscillator/voice behavior of the instrument as a signal generator itself, till Taktik clarified its actual purpose. Maybe a different naming for those modes would serve better!?
