Clone Pattern Icon - Would Be Most Useful If Acted On Selection

Ok this might just be a subjective opinion, but I still do sincerely wish that if there were an icon to clone patterns it would act on a selection of patterns, and not just the current pattern. Seems limiting.

If I’m going to use the GUI and not kb shortcuts there’s usually a good reason for it. Say, for instance I’m working in a dark place on a laptop with non-illuminating keys.

I’ve commented about this before in the past in the general suggestions forum, I don’t recall what the justification for this was.

if this thread is dead could it just be closed so we’re not given the perception that suggestions are still being taken?

You know that 2.8 is not getting anything fancy anymore. Even the minor bugs (as in minor annoyance) aren’t fixed (if they are not easy to fix)

What is fancy about this request? It’d be like if photoshop ignored your selection and performed a filter on your entire image instead of the selection.

A scripted solution is cool, i’m glad we have that option but the whole point of this thread is to point out that if you have a gui button to clone pattern it would be most useful if it acted on the selection of patterns since there is no “clone selected patterns” button. If you don’t have a selection of patterns, it just clones the current pattern… just like in photoshop, if you dont have a selection made, your operation effects the whole image.

I guess it seems to me as an oversight – if you are going to take up room in the GUI for a button, why not make the button as functional as possible.

Well, then just leave out the “fancy” part and the line still applies.
You have a good point though, but it will be considered for a later version.

Got it. Wanted to be sure that what I was pointing out here was understood before it was written off as something fancy.

If 2.8 isn’t getting anything anymore why not close the 2.8 suggestions thread?

Because specific 2.8 related feature suggestions are being kept aside so devs can sort additional 2.8 specific feature related suggestions from the generic all-season desired suggestions. So you can still post suggestions that are 2.8 related.
(Aside from the fact that people are still posting any generic suggestions on this forum as well, but these will end up in the general suggestions forum in the end.)
