Continuous clicks and pops

I’m using Renoise 2.8.0 (64-bit) and recently started noticing more and more clicks and pops during playback as well as after rendering. I’m using a Traktor Audio 2 interface with an Intel Core i7-2600 + 16gb RAM PC.

Here’s some example audio.

I did recently change my speakers from cheap desktop speakers to 5" studio monitors, and I believe that’s why I hear them more clearly now.

Any tips to get rid of clicks and pops?

Your audio is completely clean, mate. Downloaded and checked it out. Absolutely no pops or clicks in there that I can hear (or see).

Examining the waveform very closely does reveal a few tiny points (really just a couple of samples) where it looks like the sound has clipped for a brief instant, but this is not really audible at all to me.

Perhaps your audio interface is not handling the clipping very well? It’s rare, but sometimes audio hardware does not handle these situations very smoothly. A typical case with audio CDs that have been fully normalized to 0dB, for example, is that certain D/A converters will actually overshoot 0dB when reconstructing the signal, causing nasty distortion. I wonder if something similar might be happening here with your audio interface, so you hear this noise on playback?

Maybe try lowering your levels a bit anyway. You can also try running in 16-bit instead of 24-bit, to see if this makes any difference.

Thanks for checking the audio and for the tips. Will investigate!

It could also be RF interference, depending on how long your speaker cables are, whether they’re balanced or unbalanced, whether or not they’re close to any AC power cords, how clean the power is in your home, and what other electronic devices you have near by (fluorescent lights, fans, refrigerators, air conditioners, power amps).
