I have Renoise set to create a new file on startup.
Every time I load up a file after startup the program terminates.
It ‘successfully’ loads the file, then once I press play or change any parameter, it’s done!
I then have to restart Renoise and recover the crash file. This is the only way I can open saved files.
Once Renoise has crashed once, however, I can open any number of files… It’s only on initial startup of the program.
So you have defined a custom default song template if i understand you correctly? (meaning you have a default song that automatically loads personal chosen plugins and configures their parameters on Renoise startup)
If so:
-Are there plugins involved and which ones?
-If there are plugins involved, remove each plugin by hand in this sequence: Remove one plugin, save template song, restart renoise. Do this until Renoise no longer crashes or all plugins have been removed.
-What would happen if you would “delete” the template song? (“Help” -> “show the preferences folder” will bring you to the folder where the song is saved if you want to back it up first)
oh no. just the default setting where it opens a new file with no instruments or anything… sorry for the confusion, i just wanted it to be clear that i don’t have it set to open the last file saved (which also causes a crash)

i can do anything with the new file that is created when i open the program. it works fine. the problem is when i load a file. any file. if i press play, or click to adjust a parameter(volume, instrument settings… anything) it just crashes. i then restart renoise and recover the crash file. then it works fine, and i can even load other files. it’s like it has to crash once, recover a file, and that’s the only way i can load saved songs. once it crashes and recovers, i can load any number of tunes i want. it’s weird.
i don’t feel that it’s unstable, it works just fine, it is just highly annoying having to ‘crash it’ to continue work on a previous project.
at first i thought it was reaktor(i use that a lot), but then i tried saving a file without reaktor, and it did the same thing. perhaps i just need to update to an intel mac
