i should mention that this isnt a remix that tries to stick close to the original key or anything. I mainly tried to capture teh feelings I got watching Tron Legacy (i waited all these long yrs since the first one and WASNT disappointed), especially the intro which the track i chose can be heard. Also I tried to pay tribute to the wonders of Wendy Carlos’ work in general, Tron soundtrack in particular, sticking to as much analog style sound as possible with free software (TAL Noisemaker? EFF YES! Logana? EFF YES TOO! (a plus cuz my gf is named Logan, and yes shes a woman biologically, and has a male name, her parents are weird what can i say) Micromoon Moog emu? Best free moog emu!).
Laser Bay 2 is the button Bruce Boxleitner presses in the beginning of the original Tron, in the elevator, going to see his lady in the LASER BAY 2. I cant watch that and not ‘HELL YES’ out loud to this day. Hands down teh COOLEST BUTTON IN FILM. Id pay good money to press a button that says Laser Bay 2 even if i didnt get to go to the laser bay.
big thnks to the DP guys, Disney for finally making the sequel and setting a record i guess, longest interval btwn sequels, Jeff Bridges for being a hell of an actor and personal hero, Boxleitner for being ‘the other original cast member’, and being Tron isnt too bad either, I guess. Main character kid whose name i forget, he did a decent job surprisingly
I have to say I wasnt too optimistic when i first watched Legacy, particularly regarding the choice of a French electro/disco house act in what I saw as Wendy’s Seat. But, not only did the story, acting, and fx all exceed my hopes… Damned if them french house heads didnt do a DAMN. FINE. JOB. On that soundtrack! No Carlos, but neither is she a Daft Punk. They managed to have all the oldschool analogish sound i hoped for, while keeping their own sound entirely, and rather than a copy of the original soundtrack, they updated and added to the whole Tron vibe EXQUISITELY, modernizing it while keeping all the nerds (me) happy, and even rocking out a little too. AND OMG, that closing track? ARE THOSE 303 LINES??? (I think its Phoscyon, but whatever it sounds great) 303-esque anyway, and more than one instrument! Working with tehir stems and hearing their soundtrack work elevated the guys to real master status in my eyes, the LAYERS… End of Line in particular…
Anyway I dig the movie and daft punk, and ill shut up before i type more paragraphs.
Enjoy the remix!
And, if anyone is curious to hear the stems, i have previews on my ftp. Strictly for educational purposes, I assume no liability for unlicensed use.
