Demo Song Submissions

So i was thinking. I never give out xrns/rns tracks freely, like i stopped giving out XMs as soon as the amount of work i put into samples and whatnot (considering the parasitical nature of the tracker scene, sorry), paired with the fact that some of it stood a chance of a pressing, made it all a bit complicated.

However, i wouldnt mind submitting a tune as a demo pack-in with Renoise, assuming speedcore/noise stuff would be acceptable. I suppose as a mediocre way of trying to give something back.

Are there any rules for this? Or any guidelines? Anything?

Also, if this post reads like arrogant trash; It’s not my intent :P

I can’t speak for the Renoise team of course, but if I were in their shoes I would simply look for songs which demonstrate some of the power of Renoise. It should sound “nice” of course, but “nice” is terribly subjective as we all know. As long as it sounds pretty good and flexes some of the mighty Renoise muscle… then go for it!

Good.

Foo? would like to master you ;)

Jup. Time to get ninja…

I’m on it boys. Give me a week, she’s a busy one ;)

I’m looking forward to the masterpiece ;)

Gentlemen, I’ve almost settled on a mix for this. There sure is some lovely little sonic pearls in this one that I’ve brought to the surface.

About to load up RC2 to make sure it all rokks.

I fear the banana, but cinnamon will save us.

She’ll be up tonight, my time.

The Unbelievable Attack of Les Horrib Bananas!

By Kaneel and Mushen. 1.9 Demo Song submission. :drummer: :yeah:

I’ve tried compressing the song with XRNS-OGG PHP script (I hope you don’t expect taktik to include a 4MB song in the demo collection :)) and it returned a serie of warnings: “flac return_val was 1” for some .flac files

Whoops! In my tired state last night I forgot to OGG it!!! Sorry gents! Not good form at all!

This is definitely a very well made song and excellently uses the new FX, but I dont think what we should include this song into the Renoise 1.9 package, sorry. First, because it uses way too much CPU: On my old 1.8 G5 the middle part goes over 90% which is not really a good showcase for a product. Second, this is a song everyone here in this board community will understand, but people who just downloaded the demo of Renoise and never watched the baguette videos are a bit lost.

For this release we are currently renewing/refreshing the already existing songs and will maybe remove some of them to keep the package smal. For the next release we should do something like a demo song competition instead. Its always better to have a big bunch of songs to choose from. Then we should also clearly set up rules for the songs (like the max CPU usage and size).

How about asking Venetian Snares to do a short demo song? Not that I’m into his stuff, but he seems to do a good job attracting a crowd to Renoise. And Renoise IS ideal for that kinda stuff, so why not roll with it. Maybe he has something lying around, or could be persuaded to do it for a few Renoise licenses to give away to friends and fans?

Kaneel, taktik’s response seems to add some weight to that idea I had… Hmmm, will put more thought into it.
