Demographics

… the scene!

As Renoise came from a scene-background and as some of you guys are active in the demoscene you might find this nice documentation about the demoscene interesting. There are interviews with FutureCrew-Members, there is some stuff about Demoparties and Cracktros and there’s a lot of other interesting stuff to see.

You might want to download this documentation at archive.org

Hope you like it. I did :)

i’ve seen the demoscene term thrown around but never knew its meaning nor its history

i need to surround myself more in that kind of environment

thanks

OMFG! This is great. Good times those 90’s.

At last I will see the faces of Future Crew members :D

Downloaded and waiting to get home and check it.

The good old demoscene…
Though i’ve grown along with these C64 cracktos and intros etc… i start to feel really old when i see all those old simple raster bar C64 intros back on the screen…
Nice to see Statix back in the picture… i’ve seen him only once at Herning '94 (Party IV) or party V, that was not in Herning… never mind for sure after i left Acme :P (ouch already 14 years ago :P )

The demoscene produces great entertainment and if you’re into the whole technical side of things, cool ideas and methods for realtime computer graphics/audio.

However, most (i’m not saying all) of my run-ins with them and just poking around on pouet, seem to be viciously stuck up corn holes. Well, I take that back…they range from asshole to ultra asshole. Again, though, just my experiences. It might be because I’m American, though. Not sure, seeing as how much of the demoscene activities are in European countries.

But my personal experiences don’t stop me from admiring the productions, though. :)

My fave is still the one that ran on my old DOS box (a 133mhz) which was was 3D made to look like it was crudely drawn by a 3rd grader (messy lines and bad coloring) and then animated as such (squiggly vision!). Then near the end of the prod, the paper that was the base for the animation folded itself up (while there was still animation on it, mind you) into a paper airplane and flew away. That was the first time I’d seen any 3D graphics THAT stylized and I haven’t really seen it since. It really made cel shading (that appeared later) look kind of bland.

Unfortunately, I don’t know who made it or what it’s called or even when it came out…I’m guessing around 1998 is when it came out.
