Since it is not possible to automate the post-volume faders in the mixer, as it says here:
“…Introduced PRE/POST volume/pans: All tracks have now two sets of volume/pan parameters: The first one (PRE) is automatable, and will be applied prior to all other DSPs (how it used to be in earlier versions). The second one (POST) is not automatable, and was introduced for the final mixing/mastering process: It will be applied after all DSP devices, giving you the final control of the tracks volume without having to worry about already created automations. All volume and pan parameters can also be MIDI mapped…”
I like this new “post volume” feature, but there is one thing that I have been strugling with, in my attempts to mix my latest tune in Renoise 1.8 beta 8:
When I add a compressor to a track in order to change the sound of the instrument used on that track, and also want to use volume automation on that track, I have to use the GAINER effect in order to use “volume” fades post the effects. I therefore add the gainer effect as the last effect in the effect chain, right before the POST volume faders. This does work, BUT the graphical gainer automation is not percise. For instance I want to fade up fra “-INF dB” (no sound) to 0 db. Since the automation is purely graphical it lacks the choice of actually entering numbers. When I draw a flat line in the automation it is not perciselly flat. So in order to make a volume fade in in the track using the gainer effect, I first double click the “gainer” text to the left of the automation window, so the current db-position is drawn in the automation graphical window. Then I add a second point to the far right, which is as low as possible (-“INF dB”). I then have to “flip the selected points” from left to right, in order to make sure that the gainer will fade up to perciselly 0 DB. Although it is possible to have POST EFFECT VOLUME AUTOMATION RIGHT BEFORE THE POST VOLUME FADERS this way, I really would like to be able to enter numbers in the automation.
