Easy way to randomly slightly offset snaredrum?

Hi,

I am looking for a non-destructive way to slightly offset the snare a bit on a beat. Like controlled offsetting… I could modulate the attack with random lfo, but i would prefer to delay the snare completely… Maybe a delay 100%wet? But the delay sadly crackles on delay change and how to ensure it only changes if the snare is not playing? one time random lfo + signal follower retrigger I guess…

So signal follower as retrigger -> random lfo one shot -> delay 100% wet?

Any better ideas?

Would be cool if I could negative delay…

Is there a way to do this? I had some piano on a song and got some subtle variety using assorted values in the delay column, but it seems you can’t use negative values. So there’s an aspect of natural playing that cannot be replicated that way.

I’m unsure how Renoise would do this short of looking ahead while playing.

I suppose a hack might be to move all the notes back one line, then delay all the notes by 1 line +/- some delta.

Yes I guess so, too. All notes before and then delay everything except sndrum. Nasty workaround :frowning: Writing here about instrument context… Of course, if I used single wave samples for drums instead, I could simply put the sn track to a negative delay value… So why the hell did I put my drumset into one instrument with fx?? To limit myself I guess…

No negative delay, and only in range of one line, but isn’t the humanize option in the advanced edit options with proper masks/setup the thing you’d like to do? It’d be oneshot-randomization of note data, not suitable for live stuff, but you randomize the values once and they’ll be set (always same result so repeatable), and you can even hand-tune individual notes that aren’t delayed to your liking.
