I have been listening to a lot of raunchy southern hip hop recently. I think a lot of the lyrics are tiresome, but I like the beats and production. I particularly like Lex Luger’s tuned and sustained 808 kicks and busy snares, so my drum programming was inspired by his work. However, I have opted for a much more whimsical (some may say cheesy) feel than your typical hardcore rap tune, replacing the in-your-face rhymes with silly little synth riffs. The song includes mostly 808 samples and the discovery dsp soft synth (modeled after the nord lead hardware synth). I use renoise to sequence. The finished product pleases me, but any feedback will be much appreciated.
