Hardcore Kick Drum

If anyone wants to be blown away, try removing the chorus from Sunjammer’s kick chain

Yeah midrange isn’t all that important (for my method anyway). Experiment with singling out bands and gaining them pre distortion. Also, don’t forget amplitude, it can do such bizarre things pre dist. Velocitydevice driven one-shot LFO automating a gainer is good for a lot of things.

I have had great results with Ohmforce’s Ohmicide distortion VST which has countless options for really destroying your standard kick samples…

Also I use Cakewalk’s Rapture and import kicks and mess around with the pitch and cut-off waveforms which are great as they can be literally drawn to any shape you want…

you want it to sound like nasenbluten?

try this…load your 909 kik…there is a button that allows you to turn up the volume(it is next to the maximize sample button and fade in/out buttons) keep cranking the volume until you achieve the desired effect. it has a unique quality that normal overdrive just doesnt get.

Heres one I made earlier. took me a few minutes.

HA! that clue is EPIC, well I knew it was the 909, but I thought Its just some distortion.
But I was talking about the “newschool” kinda kicks. like in the first post, where I added the video.
this thread helped me a lot and I am very glad that my issue is taken seriously.
It could have ended like “heh, you dont need kixx until you got them COWBELLZ LOLOLOLOLAWLLAWL ect ;P”

So just for a laugh. Here’s where that example xrns ended up for me. Lawl.

Absolute Pwnage

Hey Sunjammer… I remember u mentioning ducking sounds… how would u do that? ^_^

I recently searched for a nice hardstyle-hardcore-kickdrum tutorial and found the one by Nutty. He uses Synapse Junglist VST and some compression.

Sounds interesting, though.

Load your 909 kick in Protracker on a amiga500 en hit the RAMP button - rename it to 1818 bass.

LFOdevice in one-shot mode mapped to a highpass filter or gainer, retriggered on every beat.

That’s good! :yeah:

Ohh I didnt think of that! I read on some website that it was done by sidechain compression (compressing the bass seperately) I dont know if it achieves the same effect though. I shall try the one shot LFO way and see. Thanks! :P
